Nat Sciver-Brunt - The Best Cricketer of the Week

As is often the way after a high point scoring week, this week sees 60 points let you into the Top 5.

Top 5 for the Week

1. Nat Sciver-Brunt - 180 - Positive signs for fans of England as NSB bags a World Cup Warm-Up Match century...she also bowled for the first time since her ascension to the England captaincy. You'd suspect more points to come.

2. Saim Ayub - 133 - Oh...Pakistan wunkerkind Saim Ayub has finished second has he....he must be performing fantastically in the Asia Cup....let me see.....oh! Yet again saves himself with the ball as he turns into a batting allrounder that's crap at batting.

3. Nicholas Pooran - 120- Seems a little disappointing that he did so well in the Qualifier against St Lucia before bombing in the final against Guyana....still his side won though so can't be too bad.

4. Wanindu Hasaranga - 117 - Another 100+ score since his exile from cricket sees Hasaranga move up a place to 15th in what has been a bit of a damp squib for the portly Lankan bowler.

=5. Pathum Nissanka - 60 - His worst week of the Asia Cup sees him sneak into the Top 5, head bowed and shuffling his feet. Still manages to move up to within 4 points of the Top Ten though.

=5. Jasprit Bumrah - 60 - Another comfortable yet rather quiet Asia Cup week for Jasprit; a man who many call the best bowler in the world...but is our lowest point scorer of the year.

Overall Top 5

1. Sam Curran - 4148 - Rested/dropped from the final England T20I against Ireland and therefore inactive this week. Comfortable 341 point lead on second though.

2. Jos Buttler - 3807 - Might as well have not shown up proceedings in Malahide. Added 10 Fielding points to his total after nicking off for a duck.

3. Liam Dawson - 3613 - Bagged two wickets in the final T20I of the English 'summer' to continue his chokehold on third without ever looking like threatening second. He has now spent 11 consecutive weeks in the Top 3.

4. Nat Sciver-Brunt - 3146 - Is about to enter a pretty intense period of cricket, and does it off the back of moving up spot. She will have to go some to eat into the 467 point gap between her and third....but she's capable.

5. Nicholas Pooran - 3096 - Despite winning the CPL and despite finishing third for the week, Pooran still loses ground this week and drops to fifth.

Top 3 Averages

1.Chamari Athapaththu - 161.67
2. Sam Curran - 159.94
3. Nat Sciver-Brunt - 143 (Up from 141.24)

Madly Saim Ayub's average improves the most this week - up 1.94 to 103.94. Pathum Nissanka comes back down to earth with a 5.67 point reduction to 134.96

Harry Brook - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 5

1. Harry Brook - 241 - The man of the moment is the man of the week with yet another ton. Surprisingly this is only his this Cricketer of the Week from his 26 active weeks in 2024. You would imagine we will be seeing more of him going into our 2025 Lists.

2. Moeen Ali - 173 - Last played for Guyana almost 2 months ago and then clocks back in for the same unit in the Global T20 League. 4 games in a week will always give you a bit of a boost. Moeen is the ultimate yo-yo-er and is back up to 11th on the Overall List.

3. Daryl Mitchell - 123 - Making hay in the antipodean sun whilst he has been scrabbling around in the dirt for most of the year. This is his second successive active week in the Top 5.

4. James Vince - 116 - Finishes his jolly up in Abu Dhabi having scored 484 in three weeks. Now onto the BBL; starting next weekend.

5. Shubman Gill - 80 - Hard to read much from this. Retired 50* in a two day Test warm-up game that was reduced to one day and was played the week after the First Test was over. Still enough for him to move up to 15th Overall.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 4681 - I could be wrong (it has been known) but I think that this might be Athapaththu's final total. I cannot see anymore cricket on the horizon for her in 2024. It doesn't feel enough for our first female cricketer to finish first.

2. James Vince - 4454 - Vince will finish second of first this year. 768 points sperate him to third and he has 4 BBL games between now and New Years Eve to overthrow the 227 point gap on first. He averages 80.25 per T20 game.

3. Travis Head - 3686 - Another week's rest (if that's the right word for a father of a month old baby. Back in action next week.

4. Phil Salt - 3569 - Did not end the Abu Dhabi T10 competition with the pyrotechnics we saw throughout the rest of the tournament but keeps his fourth place spot.

5. Sam Curran - 3460 - Inactive again...you feel he may finish 2024 outside the Top 5. Jaiswal is 233 points away from him, Labuschagne 253, Jadeja 348 and Brook 360.

Other Mover

45 points in the 'warm-up' game against an Australian Prime Minister's XI was enough to see him overtake Labuschagne into 8th.

Top Three Averages

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 167.18
2. Jos Buttler - 140.05 (Down from 143.26)
3. Ravindra Jadeja - 129.67 (Down from 132.39)

Seems cruel, if not also very funny, that Kohli not batting or fielding gets him 0 points in a warm up game and sees his average drop by a smidge over 4 points to 93.92. Harry Brook's goes up the most, +4.87 to 119.23.

Harry Brook - The Best Cricketer of the Week...again

Weekly Top 5

1. Harry Brook - 387 - No air of mystery around top spot this week. If you score a triple ton in a Test you're going to be top of the pops. He has scored 800 points in the last three weeks and moved from 16th in the Overall list to 10th.

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 212 - Back playing red ball cricket and now the captain of Queensland. Scored 112 runs and got two wickets this week to give him second place. Also moves up to 6th place on the Overall List.

3. Moeen Ali - 148 - His late call up into the CPL has given Moeen a late season boost up the List. The 595 points he has scored in the last three weeks is more than he got in the last seven active weeks of cricket he had over the English Summer. Up to 9th overall.

4. Mitchell Marsh - 127 - Could the start of the Australian Summer see Marsh move up our List. His first Sheffield Shield game sees him in fourth for the week, up one overall and all that without bowling. Who knows how high he can go?

5. Usman Khawaja - 115 - The bottom placed Cricketer on our Overall List rounds off our weekly Top 5. With just 613 points across the year, Khawaja is going to have to put in a Herculean effort to be anywhere other than bottom spot for 2024.

Overall Top 5

Despite expectations there is a fourth static week in the top 5. Margins are very narrow between Vince and Athapaththu in first and second and between Azam and a chasing pack below him.

2. Babar Azam - 135.04 (Down from 139.14)

3. Jos Buttler - 131.5

Chamari Athapaththu's average drops by 6.92 but her weekly average is untouchable still. Brook moves up by a huge 12.53 points. With a weekly average of 123,82, he has the second best of anyone.

Moeen Ali - The Best Cricketer of the Week

After some very very lean weeks we have had the third highest score of the year this time out with 2041 points shared between all but 5 players.

Weekly Top 5

1. Moeen Ali - 340 - Retires from international cricket, takes a little break in Guyana and becomes one of the most miserly bowlers in world cricket. Prior to this week he had not scored an economy point in all of 2024. This week he scored 90.

2. Ravindra Jadeja - Another one straight out of the Jadeja playbook. Doesn't play for months on end and then gets just shy of 300 points in one Test. Jumps from 17th to 12th.

3. Aaron Hardie - 207 - Has not been setting even the most flammable parts of the world alight this year but has impressed in the ongoing ODI series against England. Has been in the Top 5 in two of the last three weeks.

4. Rachin Ravindra - 191 - Back in action after a long spell away and a fairly decent showing with 131 points in the loss to Sri Lanka. Could be a late player as cricket shifts into the other hemisphere.

5. Harry Brook - 164 - One very good performance in the ODIs against Australia preceded by a core of just 4. Turning into a decent late Summer for him. Despite this finds himself DOWN a spot overall.

Overall Top 5

1. James Vince - 3873 - Holds top spot for a second week as he plays out his final Hampshire game of the season. Will hope for a bigger gap to see him through to the BBL.

2. Chamari Athapaththu - 3752 - Biding her time before the Women's T20 starts. Is now the second longest inactive player on the List with 4 weeks without a score.

3. Travis Head - 3251 - A 279 point swing this week - with 325 points on the board last week, he got a mere 49 before but paltry scoring from those below him means that there was zero pressure on his bronze medal position.

4. Sam Curran - 3156 - Inactive this week for the first time in 10 weeks. Holds fourth.

5. Babar Azam - 3061 - Only 5 points week ; the lowest of anyone. Yet he still holds fifth spot.

Ones to Watch

Two Aussies have a single point between them in 19th and 20th; who will prevail out of Hardie and Marsh?

Other Movers

Shubman Gill got an impressive 159 this week but that saw him finish sixth. He does move up a spot to 13th though.

Top Three Averages

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 187.65
2. Babar Azam - 139.14 (Down from 145.52)
3. Marnus Labuschagne - 132.5 (Down from 138.47)

Babar Azam's single figure week sees him tumble the most whilst Ravindra Jadeja improves by 10.24 points up to 111.68.
