Suryakumar Yadav - The Best Cricketer of the Week

After the feast of cricket over the last month, a short but sweet one this week. Just a Top 3 for ya.

Weekly Update

1. Suryakumar Yadav - 148 - Disappointing in the World Cup Final but very decent in his first foray in captaining his national team. 148 is the lowest highest score of the week that anyone has had in 2023 - and the 13th lowest ever.

2. Pat Cummins - 80 - Cricket's Mr Nice Guy being the highest point scorer for the winning team of the ODI World Cup is a sight to see. Can't begrudge it too much.

3. Usman Khawaja - 53 - Two modest scores in the Sheffield Shield against Victoria. This would not get you anywhere near the Top 3 normally but here we are.

Overall Top 5

1. Shakib Al Hasan - 4846 - Inactive this week and a very lucky boy to hold on to Top Spot. Could be in action at the end of this week in a Test match against New Zealand...but could also be injured.

2. Shubman Gill - 4778 - Not so much a damp squib in the World Cup final as a soaking wet squib. Could have taken top spot but now lags by 68 points. Might not be in action again until the 10th December.

3. Jos Buttler - 4636 - Inactive this week. Will be looking to get his form back in a white ball campaign in the West Indies starting on the 3rd of December.

4. Simon Harmer - 4432 - Literally who knows what's going on with Harmer but he's still clinging on.

5. Ravindra Jadeja - 4404 - No pyrotechnics with either bat or ball in the World Cup final. Hard to say when he will next be in action. Could be as late as the 17th of December.

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer - 184.67
2. Shakib Al Hasan - 156.32
3. Ravindra Jadeja - 146.8 (Down from 150.97)

Jadeja continues to descend but, luckily for him, so does Gill meaning he keeps his top three spot. SKY goes up the most - a modest improvement of 1.74 meaning he averages 97.53 a week.

Babar Azam - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly List

1. Babar Azam - 270 - Is hitting his straps at just the right time for the T20 World Cup. It is his third Cricketer of the Week award of 2022 and his tenth in the three years on our List - this puts him joint fifth all time with Marnus Labuschagne.

2. Kane Williamson - 236 - Kane Williamson does not do well in these Lists. He is scheduled to finish in the bottom three for the second year in a row and has never been in the Top Ten. This is only the third time he has ever been in a weekly Top 5 in the last 2 years.

3. Mohammad Rizwan - 213 - The Reliant Rizwan still keeps trundling along. Over the last 2 months he has been in the Top 5 highest scores for all but 3 weeks and with the T20 World Cup round the corner I see no reason why that should stop.

4. Marnus Labuschagne - 167 - It is fair to say it has not been a vintage year for Marnus after his Cricketer of the Year accolade in 2022. He can still crack out a big score in the longest form though, as was seen in his century stand in Queensland's mauling of Tasmania.

5. David Warner - 147 - A sniff of a big tournament and David Warner is back to his big scoring ways. He knows when to turn it on and is back in the Top 5 for the second week on the bounce.

Overall

1. Simon Harmer - 4778 - Harmer's lead is plummeting quicker than the pound. Once a mighty 1363, he now has a lead of just 483. Needs to decide if he's playing in South Africa before the lead is gone.

2. Mohammad Rizwan - 4295 - Once upon a time, Rizwan was looking over his shoulder with a cavernous gap ahead of him. Now he is 751 points clear of third spot and dares to dream he could claim the top spot by the end of the T20 World Cup.

3. Babar Azam - 3544 - Cricketer of the Week and up two places to his highest position since mid-April. Everything is coming up Millhouse for Babar. He's even sorting out his Strike Rate issue.

4, Moeen Ali - 3533 - Another underwhelming display from Moeen sees him lose the third-place spot he has held for 6 weeks.

5. Quinton De Kock - 3326 - Last week I said it was famine or feast for the South African wicket-keeper, and he had a lean harvest this time out. After scoring 305 points last week he has scored 31 this. Down a place to 5th.

Other Movers

Two players moved position this week despite not having huge scores. Travis Head got 122 for the week but overtook Steve Smith into 18th whilst KL Rahul got 12 runs more but went up 2 spots to 14th.

Ones to Watch

Two Aussies with very different agendas might be worth keeping an eye on. The domesticated Travis Head is only 8 points clear of Steve Smith who is about to start the carnival of big hitting that will be the T20 World Cup. Who will have the edge?

Top Three Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 207.74
2. Babar Azam 147.67 (Up from 142.35)
3. Ben Stokes = 146.74 (Down from 151.33)

Stokes experienced the now traditional Test-to-T20 transition average dip and also moves down to the third highest average points per week. Kane Williamson's average improved by 11.5 points but his 63.5 points per week is still the worst of everyone's.

Mohammad Rizwan - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 3

1. Mohammad Rizwan - 204 - Has been in such strong form during PSL 2020 and has the final still to play. He is the last man standing of our three PSL players and has scored 359 points more than anyone else.

2. Quinton De Kock - 187 - A return to a lower ranked T20 competition will always pad out your scores and QDK has done that with his run to the CSA T20 Challenge final. This is his third successive top 5 finish.

3. Kyle Jamieson - 125 - Two wickets is not a prolific haul for the New Zealander from the first #NZvSA Test - however it is enough to sneak him into the Top 3 in this meagre week.

Overall Top 5

1. Mohammad Rizwan - 962 - Rizwan becomes the sixth person to take first place on our overall list. The last two people (Pant and Moeen) only managed it for a single week; can he double up?

2. Moeen Ali - 944 - Inactive this week and down a place to second.

3. Quinton De Kock - 891 - Three successive weeks of three figure scores has finally seen De Kock up from 5th place to third as the CSA T20 Challenge comes to a close.

4. Glenn Maxwell - 821 - Played in two formats for the first time since 2020 this week, however it was not enough to see him drop down a place to fourth.

5. Risabh Pant - 730 - Was inactive for only the second time this year but has tumbled to his lowest ever position.

Other Mover

Despite the second lowest score of the week, Hasan Ali made the biggest move up the table. His 86 points was enough to overtake our trio of England players and Moeen Ali and move him into 13th.

Ones to Watch

The forthcoming Pak v Aus series has some tantalising battles. Babar Azam is 127 points off the top 5 with Kyle Jamieson, in action against South Africa, 19 points below him. Pat Cummins is 19 points off Simon Harmer in 8th whilst there is yet another 19 point gap between Steve Smith and Hasan Ali. Finally Labuschagne is 11 points off the Top 10.

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 263
2. Mohammad Rizwan= 192.4 (Up from 189.5)
3. Moeen Ali = 188.8

Hasan Ali's poor PSL followed by an all rightish performance versus Peshawar Zalmi sees his average improve by 8.58 - but, at 60.25 he has the second worst average on the list. His fellow countryman Babar Azam showed the biggest decrease in his average. Down 16.15 to 120.6 points a week.
