Nicholas Pooran - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Final Full Weekly Top 5

1. Nicholas Pooran - 221 - We are very much in the midst of franchise cricket mania with competitions in Australia, Bangladesh, Dubai and South Africa. Pooran played four times in two of these competitions. Still 141 is a good haul for his fourth Cricketer of the Week of the year.

2. Travis Head - 220 - One point behind this week's 'best' cricketer courtesy of another huge score in another huge Ashes success. Moves up from 17th to 15th in what has otherwise been an underwhelming year.

3. Sam Curran - 166 - Just on his usual T20 grind. 66 runs and a wicket in three games in the ILT20 sees him in the Top 5 once more.

4. Kane Williamson - 161 - Finished off a Test match before kicking off a T20 tournament in South Africa ...and did pretty well in both. 91 points from the red ball game and 70 from the white ball one.

5. Jamie Smith - 152 - Probably his least disappointing disappointment across The Ashes. 82 runs and 4 contributions in the field.

Overall Top 5 with 5 days Left of the Year

1. Sam Curran -4951 - 657 point lead on second place. All but wrapped up that Curran will join Buttler as the second Englishman to win our Cricketer of the Year.

2. Nat Sciver-Brunt - 4294 - Inactive but very comfortable for a second place finish this year. The second year in a row a female cricketer has taken the silver medal.

3. Liam Dawson - 4061 - Got the indignity of a zero point week this week....but is one of the players who will be in action this week so it least he won't round of his year with a blob. Provides a slight symmetry though as his second weekly score was a zero to go along with his second to last.

4. Jos Buttler- 3972 - Had been inactive for 6 weeks and dropped from 2nd to 5th but just 60 points non Friday for Durban sees him back up a spot to 4th....89 off a bronze medal.

5.Ravindra Jadeja - 3966 - Was not part of the Indian gang that joined up to play domestic cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and thus drops down a place.

Ones To Watch

Only 161 points separate Jamie Smith, Chamari Athapaththu, Travis Head, Liam Livingstone and Henrich Klaasen. All will be active over the next 5 days so all to play for,

Other Movers

Babar Azam's mini-Renaissance continues as he rises up to 15th place.

Top 3 Averages

1. Sam Curran - 150.03 (Up from 149.53)
2. Ravindra Jadeja = 136.76
3. Nat Sciver-Brunt = 136.1

Travis Head's big score sees his average improve by 4.8 ....but at 90.21 he has the fourth worst of anyone. Phil Salt's bad week sees him drop 3.4 and move down to 115.28.

Sam Curran The Best Cricketer of the Week

Just before the big fat man comes and gives you your goodies, let the mildly out of shape man let you know who has topped the bill on this the penultimate update of the year.

Weekly Top 5

1. Sam Curran - 350 - Almost every T20 Franchise tournament he turns out for, there will be a week where the Englishman pulls a madness. This week was that week. 130 runs and 4 wickets sees him claim his 5th Cricketer of the week this year - the second most of anyone.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 245 - Part of a slew of Indian stars who returned to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for it's final stages and he very much made the most of it. Clearly the highlight of his week was the 101 against Haryana.

3. Liam Livingstone - 155 - Making the very most of the the last few weeks of the year. Over the last 5 weeks he has only not scored 100+ points once; in that time he has moved up from 19th to 15th place.

4. Phil Salt - 118 - Since the start of the Dubai based T20 tournaments five weeks ago, no player has scored more than Salt's 716 points; averaging 147.2 points a week. This week's had no discernible highlight with decent scores against the Vipers and the Gulf.

5. Nicholas Pooran - 116 - Two poor performances saved by a score of 48* in the ILT20 gives him fifth place and is our last 100+ scorer of the week.

Overall Top 5

1. Sam Curran - 4785 - Curran's lead was already looking decent.....and then he went and spoiled it all by doing something stupid and coring 350 points. Looks like we will have a new name on the Cricketer of the Year Trophy for 2025.

2. Nat Sciver-Brunt - 4294 - Was instrumental in Hobart's inaugural WBBL victory and got another 75 points in the final.

3. Liam Dawson - 4061 - Timed an absolute monster of an innings ( 38 off 14) just before the IPL auction.....it didn't work but it shores up his third place position.

4. Ravindra Jadeja - 3966 - Inactive for the week.....and very possibly done for the year....always hard to tell with the vagaries of cricket fixtures.

5. Jos Buttler - 3912 - Inactive once more and has a gap of 233 between himself and Salt.

Top 3 Averages

1. Sam Curran - 149.53 (Up from 143.06)
2. Ravindra Jadeja = 136.76
3. Nat Sciver-Brunt = 136.1

Curran, already top, sees his average improve the most this week....Suryakumar Yadav sees his drop by 2.85 points almost exactly what it dropped the previous week.

Sam Curran - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Gone early this week as I'm laid up with flu so thought that I might as well get ahead of it before my immune system collapses.

Weekly Top 5....but also kind of Top 7

1. Sam Curran - 221 - Rather enjoying the ILT20 and is tucking into the bowlers. Known more as a bowling all-rounder than the adverse, he has scored more points with the bat than he has with the ball in this competition. This is his 6th all time Cricketer of the Week.

2. Kane Williamson - 171 - Liberated from semi-retirement from the New Zealand set-up, Williamson is reinventing himself as T20 gun for hire.....and this week he has hit the target with scores of 56 & 45 in the SA20.

3. Adam Zampa - 150 - Without pausing for breath has gone from the BBL to the ILT20 and has bagged a pleasingly increasing amount of wickets. Starting off with 0 wickets in Game 1 vs the Desert Vipers, he then got 1, then 2 and finished the week with a threefer against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders

=4. Jos Buttler - 139 - Pleasing consistency from Buttler as those around him do not do as well. This is his second three figure score in succession. Moves up to 11th in the Overall list.

=4. Chamari Athapaththu - 139 - No fireworks for the Sri Lankan this week but could have achieved more if not for the wash out at Wellington that took 40 wicket points away from her.

=4. Heinrich Klaasen - 139 - Snapped out of a poor run of form with 66 against MI Cape Town. Moves up to 12th in the Overall List.

5. Wanindu Hasaranga - 130 - Solid performances from Hasaranga this week sees him round off the Top 5. Keeping his eye in with economy points; he has the second best Economy in the ILT20 and the most Economy points of any of the bowlers on the List.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 759 - Finished in the Top 5 of the week again and completes 4 straight weeks at the top of the List.....her lead is now just 80 though.

2. Sam Curran - 679 - Curran lost 2nd place last week, skipping third place and dropping to fourth. This week he reclaims it with a weekly high score, skips third place and narrows the gap to first.

3. Wanindu Hasaranga - 596 - Yet again does just enough to hold third place for the entire month of January. The 108 point gap between him and fourth place is now the largest gap on the List.

4. Ravindra Jadeja - 488 - Inactive this week. Down two places but still holds a Top 5 berth.

5. Nicholas Pooran - 445 - Dropped out of the Overall Top 5 last week but returns, largely courtesy of a rather impressive 70 points from fielding last week.

Ones To Watch

international Team Mates Harry Brook and Jamie Smith are both tied up on 58 points so far.....who will get the most out of the remaining T20 games?

Top 3 Averages

1. Ravindra Jadeja - 244
2. Sam Curran - 226.33 (Down from 229)
3. Chamari Athapaththu - 189.75 (Down from 206.67)

After remembering that he is rather a good cricketer this week, Liam Livingstone's average improves the most up 33 points. Nicholas Pooran's drops the most; -34.67 at 148.33.
