Sam Curran - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly

1. Sam Curran - 297 - One great performance usually sees you good for Cricketer of the Week but you needed two this week - and Curran duly delivered with a 5-fer against Somerset and then a 22 ball 59 against Glamorgan. This is his first time topping the Weekly List.

2. Usman Khawaja - 256 - Usman's place on this list was going to live or die on whether he could make good in England....and early signs show that he is making good in England. He faced more balls in the first Ashes Test than he did in his last 7 innings combined in this country.

3. Pat Cummins - 232 - Great to see Pat doing what he does best after his long spell away. His bowling points have him the lion's share of his 232 but this week will be best remembered for his batting.

4. Jos Buttler - 225 - A barn storming innings against Worcestershire propels his week from Good into Top 5 status.

5. Jonny Bairstow - 178 - Criticised for his keeping (although 50 points came from the gloves) he manages to make his Top 5 debut for the year.

Overall

1. Shubman Gill - 3001 - Inactive this week and with a much more mortal looking gap between him and second place. His time is running out.

2. Jos Buttler - 2730 - Arrested his descent down the table to move back up to second; his highest position for six weeks.

3. Rashid Khan - 2613 - Inactive this week and back down to third. Unsure where his next match is coming from but could be anywhere, in any continent, at any given time.

4. Shakib Al Hasan - 2601 - Still out injured and now down to 4th spot; his lowest berth since the start of February.

5. Ravindra Jadeja - 2573 - Guess whose back....back again....Ravi's back....tell your friends.....He loves fifth...He loves fifth....He loves fifth.....

Other Movers

Simon Harmer continues to mount the table. He moves up another place this week to finish 7th; still trailing Sam Curran.

Top 3 Averages

1. Shakib Al Hasan - 185.79
2. Shubman Gill - 166.72
3. Ravindra Jadeja = 160.81

One big mover upwards and a tiny one downwards this week. Bairstow has still only played a handful of weeks so his decent outing in the first Ashes Test moves him up 22.2 to 89.6. David Warner moves down the most this week - leaking 2.22 points to 78.31.

Marnus Labuschagne - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Update

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 305 - Marnus's biggest score since October of last year and his first Cricketer of the Week of 2022 came from a strong showing with the willow against Derbyshire.

2. Hasan Ali - 219 - Followed up his inaugural Cricketer of the Week award last week with the runners-up medal this week. Is making a real assault up the overall list and has breached the top 10 after spending weeks in the doldrums.

3. Matt Critchley - 194 - A red hot opening game for Essex v Kent gave way to some tepid showings against Somerset and Warwickshire. Last week's outing v Northants sees him head back in the right direction. His average of 149.75 per County Championship game is the 2nd highest

4. David Warner - 145 - The highest performing IPL performer from the last week sees himself into the TOp 5 for two weeks back to back. After spending 11 weeks in the bottom spot, he ha snow reached the dizzying heights of 13th.

5. Mohammad Rizwan - 139 - One word to describe Rizwan's season for Sussex thus far is mediocre. His 139 points against Durham is his highest haul so far - but is tenth in terms of overall points. Not electric.

Overall

1. Simon Harmer - 1861 - A meagre total of 63 points for Harmer this week but his lead on second is still looking reasonably healthy at 178.

2. Rishabh Pant - 1683 - Has been up and down the Top 5 like a Yo-Yo on an escalator. Has not been as high as second for 6 weeks and only held it for a fortnight that time.

3. Babar Azam - There is resting on your laurels and then there is just plain falling asleep on them. It has been a full month since Babar last played and he has slipped down to third place in that time.

4. Quinton De Kock - 1628 - Is potentially a victim of scheduling as Lucknow only played once this week. His score of 63 was above the average match score for IPL 2022...however he still drops a place.

5. Mohammad Rizwan - 1356 - As said previously, not setting the world alight but is doing just enough to keep that healthy gap between him and 6th place. It is still at a competitive looking 240 points.

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 206.78 (Down from 224.75)
2. Babar Azam = 163
3. Matt Critchley = 147.25 (Up from 131.67)

It says something that Harmer can have a stinker and take a 17.97 point dip in his average and still have an average of 200+. Critchley went in the reverse direction, improving his average by 17.45 and knocking Joe Root out the Top 3.

 1. Babar Azam

Score: 3082
Cricketer of the Weeks – 5
Average score per active week – 140.09 (6th)
Highest Score – 329: A phenomenal score of run-making for Central Punjab in National T20 Cup

Fought Stokes tooth and nail for the last third of the season but finishes on top.

2. Ben Stokes
Score: 2955
Cricketer of the Weeks – 5
Average score per active week – 164.17 (4th)
Highest Score – 464: The highest score of anyone this year came in the second Test against the West Indies.

Was in prime form during that belated form. Second seems harsh.

3. Jason Holder
Score: 2596
Cricketer of the Weeks – 2
Average score per active week – 129.8 (7th)
Highest Score – 271: The CPL, so soon after the tour of England, helped boost the West Indian's total.

A late bloomer but has rocketed up the List in the last 1/3 of the year

4. Joe Root
Score: 2280
Cricketer of the Weeks – 3
Average score per active week – 147.76 (5th)
Highest Score – 364: Electric form in the yellow of Yorkshire saw him get his highest score in the T20 Blast.

4th represents the highest year end total for Root in The Cricket List

5. Aaron Finch
Score: 2491
Cricketer of the Weeks – 0
Average score per active week – 103.79 (16th)
Highest Score – 250: The same week as Maxwell

Finch has played more cricket this week than anyone else on The List - this has helped his placing.

6. Glenn Maxwell
Score: 2469
Cricketer of the Weeks – 3
Average score per active week – 117.57 (11th)
Highest Score – 284: Just earlier this month in the ODI series with India.

Last year's champion finishes just outside the Top 5. A great late year burst of ODI and BBL form.

7. Lewis Gregory
Score: 2398
Cricketer of the Weeks – 2
Average score per active week – 126.21 (8th)
Highest Score – 328: Thanks to a Bob Willis Trophy performance for Somerset

Another player that has played a lot this year. His average per week has improved in the last 1/3

Score: 2290
Cricketer of the Weeks – 2
Average score per active week – 114.5 (12th)
Highest Score – 214: Double half centuries in back to back T20Is vs South Africa.

Injury and inactive weeks held Warner back from a higher berth. Was 5th just 4 weeks ago.

Score: 2239
Cricketer of the Weeks – 2
Average score per active week – 97.35 (18th)
Highest Score – 316: A whirlwind week in Jan that started in India & ended with 2 BBL performances

A below par year for Smith. Bolstered by the second most active weeks of anybody
