Marnus Labuschagne - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 5

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 267 - Straight back after a year away and claims his twelfth Cricketer of the Year award. Could we be seeing the beginnings of a stellar year like he had in 2021?

2. Daryl Mitchell - 224 - Couldn't have asked for a better debut week on our List for a T20 player. Scores of 57 in the Super Smash for Canterbury and then 67 in national colours sees him finish with a score that would see you in top position most weeks.

3. Chamari Athapaththu - 214 - When she plays she will need to score big to stay up the top of the List and she is certainly fulfilling that brief so far. 3 games in the Women's Supers Smash this week with scores of 1, 25 and 58 plus two wickets.

=4. Babar Azam - 186 - Finishes in the Top 5 for the week but fourth does seem a little underwhelming from a Test and a T20. Without that T20 he would have finished even lower - with just 37% of his points coming from the red ball.

=4. James Vince - 186 - Two decent performances in BBL 13 puts James Vince near the top of the tree for the second week in a row. Scored a POTM 79 against Melbourne Stars before a more understated 27 against Sydney Thunder.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 373 - Finished top last week and third this week so is good value for the overall lead. Nobody has ever finished top in the first three weeks in a row, can Chamari pull off that feat?

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 267 - Straight in at second for the Australia and Brisbane batter, with a Test match on the horizon you would suspect that his Top 5 position is well assured.

3. James Vince - 235 - Consistently OK performances in BBL 13 see him rise up the ranks to third in our overall placings. Needs to perform big in the remaining games as a period of time in the wilderness beckons.

4. Daryl Mitchell - 224 - Straight into the Top 5 for a player that is increasingly becoming Kane Williamson's heir apparent.

5. Glenn Maxwell - 213 - The only member of the overall Top 5 who did not feature in the weekly Top 5. Just 71 points this week and drops from second to fifth but the days are still early.

Ones To Watch

It is just outside the Top 10 where eyes are drawn with just 50 points between 10th place Jaiswal and 15th place Sam Curran.

Usman Khawaja - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Feels like the first week where we have a decent whack of our cricketers playing. Only 6 were inactive - so who led the way?

Weekly

1.Usman Khawaja - 283 - His place on this List is built around the fact that on the occasions that he does play, he goes big to justify the lull in the middle of the year. This plan has certainly started very well with 195* in his first foray and then a BBL cameo.

2. Shubman Gill - 257 - Aided by the fact he has played in three games this week - but he has still done bloody well in 3 of them. Importantly he is starting to show his quality as a player across all 3 formats.

3. Devon Conway - 233 - Conway has been madly consistent for all of 2022 - but has scored 2 ducks in the first week of 2023. Luckily he has also bagged some big scores around that. After finishing top last week, he is third this one.

4. Babar Azam - 209 - Lots of speculation about Babar at the moment, but on the field he is doing the business as ever. Misfired in the 3rd ODI against New Zealand but scored two 50+ scores to make that all better.

5. Shakib Al Hasan - 195 - Is quite a decent cricketer if you put aside the fact that he is increasingly becoming something of a petulant pantomime villain. In amongst the histrionics there was one big game against Sylhet at the start of the BBL that saw him into the Top 5.

Overall

1. Devon Conway - 405 - Has twice finished in the top 3 of the week so, of course, holds his first place spot from Week 1. The 115 point gap to second place is the largest of any so far.

2. Suryakumar Yadav - 290 - Up a place from last week's bronze position - impressive since he only played the solitary T20 game today. Of course, it helps when you score 112 at 200+ Strike Rate.

3. Usman Khawaja - 283 - Our Test specialist players have a habit of huge surges up the table. Usman had yet to play before his 195* - and now debuts in 3rd place.

4. Shubman Gill - 269 - Had the joint lowest score alongside Rashid Khan at the end of Week 1. Rashid is now second bottom and Gill shoots into the Top 5. Fickle thing this game.

5. Babar Azam - 270 - The rest of the Top 5 is made up of players that did not feature in last year's list....but Babar is keeping it old school and rounds off our Top 5. He knocks Hardik Pandya into 6th spot.

Top 3 Averages

1. Devon Conway - 202.5
2. Shubman Gill - 145
3. Babar Azam - 135

Glenn Maxwell - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Update

1. Glenn Maxwell - 407 - The winner of Cricketer of the Year 2019 has had some good weeks but this score is his highest weekly score in his 4 years on this List. It is also the 12th highest score ever.

2. Pat Cummins - 265 - A pretty much flawless first Test series for the new Australia captain sees him finish the Ashes with a second place berth.

3. Simon Harmer - 234 - Back in action sooner than we normally see him....and also back in the wickets. 7 in Titans match vs the North West. His first Top 5 of many this year, you would think.

4. Quinton De Kock - 195 - Unfazed by lack of match practice, controversy or fatherhood, QDK was back to his best in his first outing of 2022,

5. Travis Head - 164 - If you would have predicted Travis Head as your Ashes Man of the Series you would have been recommended a concussion Test. Only the fifth Test registered for points but still sees him finish in the week's Top Five.

Overall Update

1. Glenn Maxwell - 541 - At this early stage one good week can see you move up the table...so Maxwell's exemplary week was enough to see him move from 7th to top spot. He is 100 points clear on second.

2. Pat Cummins - 439 - Solid performances in the last two Ashes Tests sees Cummins move up 4 places to second spot.

3. Rishabh Pant - 395 - Pant has been one of the stand out performers for India in their disappointing tour of South Africa; he still manages to drop a place to third though.

4. Kyle Jamieson - 300 - Jamieson led for Weeks 1 and 2 but was inactive this week and dropped down three spots.

5. Simon Harmer - 334 - It took 21 weeks for Harmer to get in the top 5 last year, here he is in fifth spot after just the third week.

Other significant movers

Marnus Labuschagne finished in 7th place for the week but was still able to move up four spots to tail Harmer by 25 spots in 6th place.

Top Three Averages

1. Pat Cummins - 219.5
2. Glenn Maxwell - 180.33 (Up from 67)
3. Kyle Jamieson - 150

All three players who have played in all three active weeks (Maxwell, Pant, Rahul) improved their average. Maxwell's improvement by 113.33 is easily the biggest positive swing.

Nicholas Pooran - The Best Cricketer of the Week

In a week where cricket has been absolutely everywhere, it seems very odd that only two players feature in this week's round up.

In second place for the week...or last place...depending on how you look at is Marnus Labuschagne with 97 points. He also finished second best in the BBL but impressed with his short cameo with Adelaide. He averaged 94.33 across his 6 BBL games. An achievement worth raising a toast(ie) to.

Nicholas Pooran made an absolute killing in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. It's funny how playing every day - and twice on Friday - can do to your score. He was one of the standout performers of the tournament. His weekly score of 442 is the 7th highest total since the start of 2019.

Another interesting quirk after 5 weeks is our Fielding Points.

Out in the front is Quinton De Kock however a number of other players are shining over our other wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran.

Root, Labuschagne and Maxwell all have more points that Pooran despite his busy week

Weekly Top 5

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 1013 - Marnus has now stretched his lead on second place to 263. His total is the second highest for the fifth week of the year after Shakib al Hasan's 1035 in 2019.

2. Joe Root - 750 - Root holds his second place despite an 'inactive' week. Movement is expected next weekend.

3. Glenn Maxwell - 570 - Cancellation of the Australian tour was bad news for The Big Show. Can he do the business in the Sheffield Shield? Holds third.

4. Nicholas Pooran - 547 - An epic week in Abu Dhabi sees the West Indian move up 8 places unto fourth.

5. Kane Williamson - 547 - The Super Smash has come to an end and Kane's Northern Districts team are out of the running. May struggle to keep his top 5 berth next week.
