Simon Harmer - The Best Cricketer of the Week

One of those weird weeks where, despite only three people featuring, so much has changed on a larger scale. First off a review of those three players.

Weekly Round Up

The first massive week for Harmer in 2023 and it was a Big Daddy - his 401 was the 21st highest weekly score ever. This was courtesy of a double five-fer against Warwickshire added to 2 wickets from a T20 Blast outing against Warwickshire.

In 32% of the 218 weeks we have been playing this game, Sam Curran's 234 points would have been the highest score of the week but he has to settle for silver medal this time out. A very decent return to red ball cricket for Surrey.

Jos Buttler's 153 points this week came from a solitary T20 Blast fixture and is probably the highest lowest weekly score... if you see what I mean.

Overall Table

1. Shubman Gill - 3001 - Still holding on to that top place berth after six weeks, but now has a lead of a mere 118.

2. Jos Buttler - 2883 - Not only holds second place, but significantly narrows the gap to first whilst distancing himself from third place.

3. Simon Harmer - 2691 - Much like the all-conquering Thanos of the Marvel franchise, Harmer is inevitable. His return to the Top 5 (skipping out any time in 4th and 5th) brings order to the chaotic world of cricket once more.

4. Sam Curran - 2688 - Despite his hard graft in the T20 Blast, it was a rare County Championship appearance that saw Curran into his debut spell in the Overall Top 5.

5. Rashid Khan - 2612 - His 23 weeks of constant activity have been undermined by three inactive weeks and he threatens to lose the Top 5 berth he has held for 17 weeks.

Ones To Watch

Another week where the big battle is between Harmer and Curran. This battle started when they were 8th and 9th and continues with them holding 3rd and 4th spot....with just 3 points between them.

Top 3 Averages

1. Shakib Al Hasan - 185.79
2. Simon Harmer - 168.14 (Up from 152.67)
3. Shubman Gill - 166.72

Harmer's average jumps up by 15.52 this week to make him the second highest average of anyone. His average has improved by 40 points per week over the last 5 weeks.

Sam Curran - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly

1. Sam Curran - 297 - One great performance usually sees you good for Cricketer of the Week but you needed two this week - and Curran duly delivered with a 5-fer against Somerset and then a 22 ball 59 against Glamorgan. This is his first time topping the Weekly List.

2. Usman Khawaja - 256 - Usman's place on this list was going to live or die on whether he could make good in England....and early signs show that he is making good in England. He faced more balls in the first Ashes Test than he did in his last 7 innings combined in this country.

3. Pat Cummins - 232 - Great to see Pat doing what he does best after his long spell away. His bowling points have him the lion's share of his 232 but this week will be best remembered for his batting.

4. Jos Buttler - 225 - A barn storming innings against Worcestershire propels his week from Good into Top 5 status.

5. Jonny Bairstow - 178 - Criticised for his keeping (although 50 points came from the gloves) he manages to make his Top 5 debut for the year.

Overall

1. Shubman Gill - 3001 - Inactive this week and with a much more mortal looking gap between him and second place. His time is running out.

2. Jos Buttler - 2730 - Arrested his descent down the table to move back up to second; his highest position for six weeks.

3. Rashid Khan - 2613 - Inactive this week and back down to third. Unsure where his next match is coming from but could be anywhere, in any continent, at any given time.

4. Shakib Al Hasan - 2601 - Still out injured and now down to 4th spot; his lowest berth since the start of February.

5. Ravindra Jadeja - 2573 - Guess whose back....back again....Ravi's back....tell your friends.....He loves fifth...He loves fifth....He loves fifth.....

Other Movers

Simon Harmer continues to mount the table. He moves up another place this week to finish 7th; still trailing Sam Curran.

Top 3 Averages

1. Shakib Al Hasan - 185.79
2. Shubman Gill - 166.72
3. Ravindra Jadeja = 160.81

One big mover upwards and a tiny one downwards this week. Bairstow has still only played a handful of weeks so his decent outing in the first Ashes Test moves him up 22.2 to 89.6. David Warner moves down the most this week - leaking 2.22 points to 78.31.

Simon Harmer - The Best Cricketer of the Week

 Weekly Update

1. Simon Harmer - 373 - Waits until June to get his fist Cricketer of the Week and then gets two on the bounce. Only Shubman Gill in January and Babar Azam in March have had a higher weekly point score than he did in 2023.

2. Ravindra Jadeja - 228 - Back to red ball cricket another big score for Ravindra. Seems like he may have a month of R&R now but this was a good way to bow out.

3. Pat Cummins - 154 - A welcome return for Pat Cummins sees him in third place - albeit with a big gap between himself and the Top 2. Will need to put a shift in to get him away from the foot of the overall List. 606 points separate him from Usman Khawaja in 17th.

4. Cam Green - 151 - An OK-ish performance with the bat and an OK-ish performance with the ball sees Green pop his head into the Top 5 for the week. Might see him there a few more times before the Summer is out.

5. Moeen Ali - 122 - Started the week with his best T20 score of 2023, then picked up his OBE from Windsor Castle, before re-starting his England Test career. Has probably had fewer more packed weeks in his life.

Overall

1. Shubman Gill - 3001 - Did not impress in the WTC Final but managed to be the first man to cross the 3k mark and extend his lead on second spot to 389....however is away from cricket for a little bit now so we might see the guard change again.

2. Rashid Khan - 2612 - Inactive this week however holds his second place slot for a second week.

3. Shakib Al Hasan - 2601 - Holding on to his Top 3 place by the very skin of his teeth. Expect him to be out 4th or lower next week.

4. Ravindra Jadeja - 2573 - Nobody has spent longer in any position this year than the 12 weeks that Jadeja has spent in 5th. He will not be too aggrieved to have moved up a place this week.

5. Jos Buttler - 2505 - Took a week off whilst the Blast was in respite. Will be looking up not down however as 248 points separates him from 6th spot.

Ones To Watch

It is captain versus captain as Essex's Harmer is just 10 points below Surrey's Sam Curran. With the Blast marching on both of them have the opportunity to take themselves to the cusp of the Top 5.

Top 3 Averages

1. Shakib Al Hasan - 185.79
2. Shubman Gill - 166.72 (Down from 174.12)
3. Ravindra Jadeja = 160.81 (Up from 156.33)

Simon Harmer continues to rise up the averages - this week improving by a huge 16.93 points. His 153.36 is now the 5th best. Usman Khawaja's poor WTC final sees his average take the biggest hit; down 13.52 to 121.11.

Phil Salt - The Best Cricketer of the Week

The fifth highest week for point scoring with 9 triple figure scores. Last week's highest score would see you finishing 5th this week....
