Simon Harmer - The Best Cricketer of the Week

 Weekly Top 5

1. Simon Harmer - 307 - Like the twinkling of an ice cream man's chimes lilting across a meadow on a warm afternoon, Harmer registering a huge score means the Summer has really started. Took longer than we thought but is back in the top spot once more.

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 174 - Back from 10 (!!!) weeks in the wilderness but straight in at second place courtesy of a century in his second innings century against Middlesex.

3. Virat Kohli - 150 - Two games for Kohli this week, the last of which led to Bengaluru's elimination from the competition. He has scored 1341 points across the IPL season. To put that into comparison the second highest point scorer was Phil Salt with 426 fewer.

4. Rachin Ravindra - 111 - Looked like he was going to take the IPL by storm with 223 points in his first week....however this score is his second highest in that time. In the intervening weeks he averaged just 24.

5. James Vince - 92 - Has yet to convert his white ball prowess back into red ball form, however his 36 & 6 against Nottinghamshire somehow sees him nab 5th place this week.

Overall Top 5

1. Babar Azam - 2359 - Only inactive this week courtesy of the Birmingham rain. Will be undoubtably back in the points next week.

2. Chamari Athapaththu - 1989 - Continues her inactive spell. Has almost seen off the threat of the IPL boys behind her. How long can she keep her spot?

3. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 1878 - A decent score of 45 at a decent lick sees Jaiswal hold third place for a third week. A decent run in could see him up to second by next week.

4. Ravindra Jadeja - 1709 - Finished the IPL strongly with a final score of 72 against Bengaluru. Wasn't enough to see them progress in the competition though.

5. James Vince - 1611 - Vince has Travis Head's abandonment of form to thank for his return into the Top 5. 0 from two games from the Aussie was trumped by the Hampshire man's score of 92 this week.

Ones To Watch

A back in form Simon Harmer is in action versus Kent this week whilst Moeen will be back in international colours this week. Just 7 points separate them in 13th and 14th.

Top 3 Average Points per Active Week

1. Babar Azam -181.46 (Up from 176.42)
2. Chamari Athapaththu - 165.75
3. Virat Kohli - 135.27 (Up from 133.8)

Obviously Travis Head's score of 0 has seen him descent the most, to the tune of -7.46. Meanwhile Harmer remembering how to bowl again improves his average by 21.05 - up to 96.45.

Cam Green - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Despite the fact that the IPl is winding down and most of our players only played the one game, all of the weekly Top 5 scored 200+ points.

Weekly Top 5

1. Cam Green - 281 - It has been a season of peaks and troughs for Cam Green....and it is certainly coming to an end on a huge peak. 141 runs across two innings at blistering SRs gives him his first Cricketer of the Week award.

2. Shubman Gill - 246 - Gill has been instrumental in getting Gujarat to the brink of the IPL final and has achieved that rare of things. back-to-back centuries in the shortest form. Is in the form of his life.

3. Simon Harmer - 238 - Another odd week for Hamer. Not much to shout about with the ball but 74 runs v Nottinghamshire took him to 194 points which he then bolstered with a couple of cameos for Essex 2nd XI in T20 games. Is now, inevitably, the highest red ball point scorer

4. Devon Conway - 217 - Few players have had as good a 2023 as Conway has in all formats. His T20 prowess has pulled Chennai to yet another IPL final. He has made 6th place his own on the Overall List and has nearly half a thousand points between him and 7th.

5. Sam Curran - 217 - Played two T20 matches this week 3956 miles apart...and did rather well in both of them. He bettered his 99 points for Punjab against Rajasthan on Friday with 108 for Surrey vs Middlesex on Thursday. He is up 4 spots to 7th this week.

Overall Top 5

1. Shubman Gill - 2692 - Lost his top spot position to Jos Buttler exactly three months ago, was third up until a fortnight ago, but Gill is now back in first. He, potentially, had two more games of IPL cricket to play so could extend his 91 point leas on second place.

2. Shakib Al Hasan - 2602 - 1 week into his 6 week break from them game and Shakib is down a place to second. How far will he descend before his return?

3. Rashid Khan - 2545 - Holds third spot for a second week with a score of 120 for the week. Has opened up a decent gap on 4th too.

4. Jos Buttler - 2343 - Ended his IPL season with another duck...but keeps his 4th place berth. Would have wanted to move up the list from second this IPL but finishes it two places worse off.

5. Ravindra Jadeja - 2310 - Mr 5 continues his domination of this position for a 9th glorious week. Conway put him under some pressure this week and has shrunk the gap to 130 however will be looking up rather than down with a decent finale of the IPL.

Other Movers

Two other players this week moved up the list despite not finishing in the Top 5. Warner finished a decent IPL with 126 for the week, moving him up 2 places to 14th whilst Suryakumar Yadav's 118 saw him up one spot to 9th.

Top 3 Averages

1. Shakib Al Hasan - 185.79
2. Shubman Gill - 168.25 (Up from 163.07)
3. Ravindra Jadeja = 165 (Up from 162.92)

Cameron Green's big score sees him move up 17.65 points whilst bairstow's embryonic average takes a 24.83 point tumble courtesy of just 7 runs this week.

David Warner - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Only 7 out of our 21 players have stayed in the same position this week. Let's see whose been moving and shaking more than Michael Barratt on a washing machine.

Weekly Top 5

1. David Warner - 314 - An emphatic victory for a man who has looked anything but emphatic in 2022. Nearly doubled his points in 3 big-scoring IPL 2022 games. Has been in 18th place as long as there has been one, is now up 2.

2. KL Rahul - 233 - Largely here this week thanks to his century against a lacklustre Mumbai Indians. He *is* the highest point scorer in the IPL as it stands with 475. Up 3 to 13th.

=3. Glenn Maxwell - 198 - Making up for lost time after joining up with Bangalore late. He is averaging 70.5 points per game - the second most of any contributor. He moves up two spots to 7th.

=3. Rishabh Pant = 198 - Buoyed up by playing three games in a week however is influential even when he doesn't get to bat. He got 50 points with the gloves against Punjab.

5. Marnus Labuschagne = 183 - Isn't at his prolific best yet for Glamorgan but has squeaked into the Top 5 thanks to a 4th innings half century against Notts. Up 2 to 10th.

Overall Top 5

1. Babar Azam = 1630 - Has not played since he got top spot three weeks ago. Will not be here next week.

2. Simon Harmer = 1603 - By his titanic standard, Harmer's return to Essex was something of a damp squib. It's a long ol' Summer though.

3. Rishabh Pant = 1531 - Pant has STILL not stayed in one position for longer than a fortnight. This time he is moving back up the ladder to third.

4. Quinton De Kock = 1479 - That failure against Bangalore cost QDK dear. Keeps his run in the overall Top 5 going to 13 weeks - the longest run so far.

5. Mohammad Rizwan = 1433 - His score of 72 was the second lowest match total of any player turning out in the County Championship. Has dropped from 1st to 5th in the last month but there is still a decent cushion of 150 between him and Pat Cummins in 6th.

Ones To Watch

After 11 weeks in 18th place, David Warner is now a real contender for progression. He is 10 points behind his old team-mate Jonny Bairstow who is in dire straits. Could be an entertaining battle.

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 229 (Down from 239.67)
2. Babar Azam = 163
3. Matt Critchley = 162

David Warner's fine week continues. His average has swelled from the lowest of the year (51) to the fourth lowest (83.88). Moeen Ali's bad week saw him dropped from Chennai's line up and drop 12.81 points. His average is now 123.44 points a week.

Peter Handscomb - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 3 - again not enough cricket for a Top 5

1. Peter Handscomb - 98 - By some distance the least deserving Cricketer of the Week since we started this endeavour. Is only there because Middlesex lost a game in 3 days and has 2 games to his total. 98 points is the lowest winning total since Azam's 120 from March 20

2. Simon Harmer - 78 - A rare mortal week for Harmer against Notts. He still manages to move up one place on the overall List to 8th - overtaking Pooran. He might get one or two points next week.

3. Peter Siddle - 56 - The Robin to Harmer's Batman also had a quiet match v Notts...however in this low scoring week he manages to get into 3rd spot.

Overall Top 5

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 2024 - Holds down top spot despite dire form in the County Championship. He is averaging 21.5 points per game but still holds a 114 point lead on Root.

2. Joe Root - 1910 - You get the feeling that Root is zoning in on the first place spot that he lost 7 weeks ago. His average in the County Championship is 103 points a week so it is a possibility.

3. Babar Azam - 1594 - Could have used the ZIM v PAK to force his agenda but scored just 12 points across two Test matches. He now lags second place by 316 points.

4. Ravichandran Ashwin - 1485 - Another inactive week from Ashwin however he has only dropped one place over the last two months. Has an 147 point lead on fifth spot.

5. Peter Handscomb - 1338 - Weight of games sees Handscomb regain his fifth places spot after a fortnight out of the top 5.
