Phil Salt - The Best Cricketer of the Week

The fifth highest week for point scoring with 9 triple figure scores. Last week's highest score would see you finishing 5th this week.

Weekly Top 5

1. Phil Salt - 303 - Very very strong form from the English Kolkata player courtesy of two half centuries at Strike Rates over 200. A month ago he was 18th in the Overall List; this week he moves into 10th spot.

2. Chamari Athapaththu - 253 - Seems rather unfair that one of the best all rounders to play the Women's game is turning out against part timers from Uganda and Scotland to qualify for the T20 World Cup...but the Sri Lankan is certainly making the most of playing the minnows.

3. Harry Brook - 176 - 126 against Derbyshire sees him fine early season form for Yorkshire continue. Leicestershire are next up for the young man. He moves off bottom spot after just 4 active week, pushing Khawaja to bottom spot.

4. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 171 - Took him a while but the Rajasthan player is now in good form once more with 91 runs scored across 2 innings.

5. Daryl Mitchell - 163 - Snapped out of a series of poor run scoring with 52 against Hyderabad. Also notable for the fact that he scored 70 Fielding points in that game courtesy of 5(!!!) catches.

Overall Top 5

1. Babar Azam - 2117 - Ended the series against New Zealand with his best performance, netting 69 runs and 129 points. His lead is down to 386 and has a week off now before a T20 series against Ireland.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 1731 - Holds second spot for a month (shared for one week). Moves closer to first place this week - but does not shake off the chasing pack.

3. Chamari Athapaththu - 1632 - Takes advantage of a fairly weak field of opponents to move up to her highest position in three months.

4. James Vince - 1443 - Is not living up to expectation in the County Championship this season. After last week's score of 16, he bagged just 31 this week. Down a place to 4th as a result.

5. Ravindra Jadeja - 1421 - Back in his safe space of 5th place after a fairly disappointing couple of games for Chennai. Only 58 points from Ravindra in 6th and another 23 to the encroaching Travis Head.

Other Movers

Two players fell outside our weekly Top 5 but still made overall progress. Travis Head's 111 saw him finish in 8th for the week but he moves up to 7th whilst Harmer's 103 was enough to see him up a place to 17th.

Top 3 Average Points per Active Week

1. Babar Azam - 176.42 (Down from 180.73)
2. Chamari Athapaththu - 148.36 (Up from 137.9)
3. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 133.15 (Up from 130)

Phil Salt's good week sees his average swell by 19.35 to 109.45 whilst Jadeja's off week sees him drop by 9.72 to 129.18.

Ben Stokes - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 5

1. Ben Stokes - 291 - England's new Test captain came back to domestic cricket with a huge bang as he schools Worcestershire with his willow. His score of 231 is the highest innings score in the County Championship so far.

2. Jonny Bairstow - 222 - YJB seems to have put his dire form behind him and turned a corner in IPL 2022. Scored more in the last 2 games than he did in his first 7. Only moves up a single place to 15th overall.

3. Marnus Labuschagne - 190 - Nowhere near as prolific as his score against Derbyshire but a decent total to see Marnus keep ticking alone. Retains tenth place overall.

4. Glenn Maxwell - 188 - Scored his joint highest and second highest scores in IPL 2022 this week; yet only gets 4th place for it and retains 7th spot overall. He has been there a month now.

5. Hasan Ali - 164 - His score against Warwickshire was his lowest County Championship score of the season and he still finishes in the Top 5. Not bad to be the fifth best on your worst day so far.

Overall

1. Simon Harmer - 2005 - Is in pretty poor form (for him) but is still extending his lead in top spot.

2. Quinton De Kock - 1779 - Finished just outside the Top 5 for the week but manages to jump up two spots to his highest position in his three years on our List.

3. Rishabh Pant - 1757 - Another week and another slight readjustment for Pant. This time he is back down to third spot but there is only 22 points between him and second place.

4. Mohammad Rizwan - 1647 - A rather unlikely move up the table for Rizwan whose score of 51 was the third lowest of the week - but benefits from Azam's decline.

5. Babar Azam - 1630 - Right on the precipice now. Labuschagne needs just 84 points this week to relieve him of his nine week tenure in the Top 5.

Other movers

There are some more lowly movers to look at. Matt Critchley's 75 is enough to see him up one place to 17th whilst Bhanuka Rajapaksa eases Kane Williamson into bottom position.

Ones To Watch

There is some tantalising IPL 2022 vs County Championship contests to look out for. Bairstow is just 1 point above Joe Root, whilst Stokes has a 4 point advantage on KL Rahul. Will red or white ball prevail?

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 200.5 (Down from 206.78)
2. Babar Azam = 163
3. Ben Stokes = 160 (Up from 138.17)

Stokes' masterclass for Durham sees him as the biggest improvement whilst Matt Critchley's variable season sees him drop out of the Top 3 into 6th as he drops 14.45 points to 132.8 a week.

Marnus Labuschagne - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Update

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 305 - Marnus's biggest score since October of last year and his first Cricketer of the Week of 2022 came from a strong showing with the willow against Derbyshire.

2. Hasan Ali - 219 - Followed up his inaugural Cricketer of the Week award last week with the runners-up medal this week. Is making a real assault up the overall list and has breached the top 10 after spending weeks in the doldrums.

3. Matt Critchley - 194 - A red hot opening game for Essex v Kent gave way to some tepid showings against Somerset and Warwickshire. Last week's outing v Northants sees him head back in the right direction. His average of 149.75 per County Championship game is the 2nd highest

4. David Warner - 145 - The highest performing IPL performer from the last week sees himself into the TOp 5 for two weeks back to back. After spending 11 weeks in the bottom spot, he ha snow reached the dizzying heights of 13th.

5. Mohammad Rizwan - 139 - One word to describe Rizwan's season for Sussex thus far is mediocre. His 139 points against Durham is his highest haul so far - but is tenth in terms of overall points. Not electric.

Overall

1. Simon Harmer - 1861 - A meagre total of 63 points for Harmer this week but his lead on second is still looking reasonably healthy at 178.

2. Rishabh Pant - 1683 - Has been up and down the Top 5 like a Yo-Yo on an escalator. Has not been as high as second for 6 weeks and only held it for a fortnight that time.

3. Babar Azam - There is resting on your laurels and then there is just plain falling asleep on them. It has been a full month since Babar last played and he has slipped down to third place in that time.

4. Quinton De Kock - 1628 - Is potentially a victim of scheduling as Lucknow only played once this week. His score of 63 was above the average match score for IPL 2022...however he still drops a place.

5. Mohammad Rizwan - 1356 - As said previously, not setting the world alight but is doing just enough to keep that healthy gap between him and 6th place. It is still at a competitive looking 240 points.

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 206.78 (Down from 224.75)
2. Babar Azam = 163
3. Matt Critchley = 147.25 (Up from 131.67)

It says something that Harmer can have a stinker and take a 17.97 point dip in his average and still have an average of 200+. Critchley went in the reverse direction, improving his average by 17.45 and knocking Joe Root out the Top 3.
