Pathum Nissanka - The Best Cricketer of the Week

A full compliment of T20 World Cup players this week with nobody featuring outside of that competition.

Weekly Top 5

1. Pathum Nissanka - 282 - Was looking worryingly out of nick up to this point of the year but burst into life with a century and a half century against Australia and Zimbabwe. When he is at his best, there are few better.

2. Aiden Markram - 214 - Continuing his fine spell of form with 114 runs scored over two T20 games....impressively he did better against the Test nation than he did the Associate.

3. Sam Curran - 213 - Not doing anything phenomenal (few English players are) but he is doing just enough with both bat and ball to feature in the weekly Top 5 for the second week in a row.

4. Travis Head - 168 - Something of a case of too little too late for the stand-in Aussie captain as he saved two decent performances for when his team were already on the brink. 27 points in the first two weeks and 168 in the last says it all.

5. Rachin Ravindra- 142 - Nothing like a knock against an Associate side to build confidence. RR is having a torrid time this year but bagged his first half century against Canada to see him pip into the Top 5 for the week.

Overall Top 5

1. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi - 1302 - Despite the points spraying around in the T20 World Cup, for Vaibhav to still have a 200+ lead is really something special.

2. Quinton De Kock - 1085- A comparatively quiet week for QDK. He is now looking over his shoulder rather than into the distance as he has a lead of just 28 off third.

3. Sam Curran - 1057 - Despite being one of the highest point scorers this week, Curran is unable to move out of bronze medal position. Still games to play for him though.

4. Aiden Markram - 1041 - Despite his big points haul this week, he does not manage to move out of fourth spot. There is a huge gulf between himself and fifth, the largest anywhere on the List.

5. Harry Brook - 764 - A disappointing week does not see Brook lose his fifth placed position. 42 points sperate him from Saim Ayub in 6th.

Simon Harmer - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 5

1. Simon Harmer- 201 - Here is a sight we haven't seen for a while! Simon Harmer claims his 46th Cricketer of the Week award after a year away from the List. Again, wasn't one of his vintage hauls but sees him. What money his 50th this year?

2. Quinton De Kock - 174 - Averaging a very pleasing 77.77 points per T20 game. Coming back off the SA20 and straight into dominating the World Cup. If you are playing South Africa you need to get him away ASAP or risk the game.

3. Aiden Markram - 134 - One decent performance against Canada and a less impressive one in that super-sized game against Afghanistan. Third straight week in the Top 5 though.

4. Saim Ayub - 133 - Not hit a great knock with the bat yet but has had some impactful cameos and also bagged two streaky wickets against the Netherlands. One of those deceptive weeks where you sneak into the Top 5 unknown.

5. Harry Brook - 120 - Is playing well even if his captaincy is leaving quite a bit to be desired. Has featured in the Weekly Top 5 for 3 of the 5 weeks he has played.

Overall Top 5

1.Vabhav Sooryavanshi - 1302 - After his Under 19 World Cup success, the young man has gone back to school to earn grades rather than points. His lead is 291 points off second.

2. Quinton De Kock - 1011 - His third successive week in second and with a decent week could overleap into the Gold position. Still a truckload of games to come.

3. Sam Curran - 844 - One of the better performing players in an under-performing England team. Finished the week with 95 points and managed to secure 3rd for a second week.

4. Aiden Markram- 827 - In spectacular form this year and moves back up into the fourth place spot that he lost last week.

5. Harry Brook - 726 - Despite the maelstrom of negativity that swirls around him, Brook makes his Top 5 debut. Never before has he flown so high, nor been so maligned.

JP Duminy - The Best Cricketer of the Week

I feel a slight sense of anti climax after last week's record high of 2943 points to only be awarding 477 this week, however a combination of rain in England, the conclusion of the two series between Sri Lanka and South Africa and West Indies and Bangladesh as well as the fact this week falls between Tests in the England-India series means that cricket was more scarce this week. The beneficiary of this is Cricketer of the Week JP Duminy whose two wickets and 38 runs sees him top of the tree. His return to form in the last few weeks has, not only seen him back in the mix with regards to point scoring, but also made T20 captain for South Africa. This seems a strange move when, as I touched on last week, his talents lay more in the One Day arena - however his tally of 118 points, added to his 337 from last week, has seen him shoot up the overall table. This week he has overtaken Ravi Ashwin to take 12th place - if he can overcome his 2018 T20 hoodoo - we could see the South African force his way into the top ten in the coming weeks.

I am surprised to see Kane Williamson so far down the weekly table. Unlike his other T20 Blast compatriots, Williamson's Yorkshire team has dodged the rain this week and managed to complete two games. Despite this successful moisture dodging, Williamson scored just 11 runs against Nottinghamshire and 1 in the Roses game; which was not the greatest birthday present for the 28 year old. In his three weeks at Yorkshire it has been a real case of feast or famine for the New Zealand captain. In his ten innings across the T20 Blast and the County Championship he has registered four innings over 35 but 6 innings under 11. This variable form is also seen in his weekly points tallies with him scoring 90 in his first week, 298 in his second and 22 this week. Overall his average is a fairly underwhelming 23.6 however if he shows what he is capable of in his stellar four innings (213 runs at 53.25) rather than his six rubbish ones (23 at 4.6) he could challenge those around him on the overall table. At the beginning of the IPL he, Joe Root and Virat Kohli were all at the bottom of the top ten together, whilst the other two Test captains have drawn away from him, Williamson is currently still in ninth place and has Jofra Archer in tenth and JP Duminy in twelfth chasing him closely for his berth.

We, as cricket fans, can sometimes be quite sadistic to those that abuse the game - however we can forgive when we feel like it. For every Salman Butt and Shahid Afridi there is a Michael Atherton or Faf du Plessis who has been welcomed back into the cricketing fraternity with open arms. We are yet to decide what to do with the Sandpaper Three - however David Warner, believed to be the chief architect of that fateful day in South Africa, is continuing his time in T20 purgatory whilst we decide what we want to do with him. After his time in Canada where he scored six single figure scores out of his eight matches for Winnipeg, he has now joined up with St Lucia in the CPL where he kick started his campaign with...a single figure score. To top this off he also dropped an absolute sitter of a catch. For those who say that franchise cricket is not much of a punishment for the three cast into the wilderness, all you need do is look at the form of Warner and think again.
