Chamari Athapaththu - the Best Cricketer of the Week

Back to a high scoring week this week before what is going to be a Geo-Politically very quiet week next week

Weekly Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 245 - Following the playbook from last year - long periods absent from the game and then some huge haymaking while the sun shines. Only Nat Sciver Brunt has had more Cricketers of the Week this year - this is her third.

2. Liam Dawson - His first big scoring week in the County Championship courtesy of a five-fer and his full compliment of economy points against Durham. Breaks into the Top Ten for the first time since the end of the SA20.

3. Jos Buttler - 194 - 94 runs across two innings gives Buttler third place in a week where he also overtakes Nat Sciver Brunt as the highest run scorer on the List.

4. Ravindra Jadeja - 176 - After a slow start to the tournament, Jadeja has burst into life of late with three back to back 3 figure scoring weeks. Only Buttler and SKY have scored more than him in that time.

5. Babar Azam - 141 - Back to looking like he might have seen a cricket bat at some point in his life in at least one innings this week. 53 versus Islamabad this week sees him ease into the Top 5 for the week despite letting himself down (again) in the game against Multan.

Overall Top 5

1. Ravindra Jadeja - 1686 - Despite being in our Lists for 4 years, Jadeja has never graced top spot until this week. His slow burning IPL campaign has seen him ease into top spot with a 36 point lead.

2. Nat Sciver-Brunt - 1650 - Parenthood is an amazing thing...but it doesn't score you many points. After 7 inactive weeks, NSB loses her 10 week reign at the top of the List.

3. Jos Buttler - 1510 - The fifth highest run scorer in the IPL and the highest run scorer in our List moves up a place to third after yet another half century this week.

4. Nicholas Pooran - 1433 - After scoring 528 points in the first three weeks of the IPL he has now scored 103 in the last three weeks to see him down a place this week to 4th.

5. Chamari Athapaththu - 1365 - Lost her Top 5 place a month ago and slipped as low as 11th last week but a bumper week for the Sri Lanka captain moves her back into 5th spot.

Ones to Watch

With the IPL being suspended for at least a week, it is a chance for Liam Dawson to do some damage on the Top 10. Currently he is tenth but a mere 158 points separate him and Chamari Athapaththu in 5th.

Other Movers

Meagre scores from Mumabi's SKY and Bumrah this week but they both move up a spot. SKY is in 8th with Bumrah up to 20th.

Top 3 Averages

1. Nat Sciver-Brunt - 165
2. Chamari Athapaththu - 151.67 (Up from 140)
3. Sam Curran = 134.56 (Down from 147)

In a rare occurence the two most noteable movers on the average table are in the Top 3. Athapaththu moves back into the Top 3 courtesy of a 11.67 point boost to her average whilst Curran drops 12.44

Rachin Ravindra - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Despite two more cricketers featuring this week, 107 fewer points were scored in what has been a lean week once more.

Weekly Top 5

1. Rachin Ravindra - 139 - Ravindra becomes the second player, after Jos Buttler, to rack up two Cricketers of the Week in 2024. It is worth noting that 139 marks the ninth lowest weekly high score ever.

2. Babar Azam - 124 - A duck against Islamabad but then a customary trademark half century against Multan sees Azam get enough points for second in a week. Three weeks ago he would have been 7th with the same score.

3. Travis Head - 120 - Is doing what Joe Root used to do and bolstering some slipshod batting with points from Economy and in the field. Only a third of his points came off the bat this week. Moves into 12th Overall

4. Chamari Athapaththu - 118 - A poor score for the Sri Lankan as she seeks to prove the doubters wrong in the WIPL. Her score is rather saved by a brace of wickets in her final match of the week.

5. Mitchell Marsh - 110 - A modest Test against New Zealand. A modest amount of runs at a modest strike rate. One modest wicket with a decent economy. Pips into the top 5 and moves into the Top 10 overall.

Overall Top 5

1. Babar Azam - 1577 - Is facing so little pressure from those below him. His lead on second is already an intimidating 393.

2. James Vince - 1184 - A mere 93 points from three PSL matches this week sees his continued struggle to upgrade from the ILT20 league. Will soon be back in the loving embrace of Hampshire though.

3. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 1085 - A well earned rest for the Indian wunderkind. Will be back in action this week hoping to eat into the 99 point deficit between himself and second.

4. Rachin Ravindra - 934 - Ravindra's year is following a bit of a pattern. After 4 weeks of the year he was 6th, jumped at to 4th, then dropped a place a week to go to 6th again. Once more he has jumped 2 places to 4th. Will he descend straight back down again?

5. Ravindra Jadeja - Inactive this week and back in his beloved position of fifth.

Other Movers

Two modest Test scores saw improvements in the Overall List for two cricketers. Usman Khawaja move dup a place to 19th whilst Daryl Mitchell's 79 was enough for him to move up 4 places to 12th.

Ones To Watch

Both Marnus Labuschagne and Shubman Gill are in Test match action this week and have 1 point between them in 13th and 14th. Could be two very upwardly mobile players this week.

Top 3 Average Points per Active Week

1. Ravindra Jadeja - 209.25 (Down from 210.33)
2. Jos Buttler - 199.5
3. Babar Azam 184.63 (Down from 207.57)

Azam's yo-yo-ing average is on it's bottom most point once more. 188.83 three weeks ago, he improved to 207.57 last week but is now back down to 184.63.Travis Head improves his average the most, up to 102.67.

Kyle Jamieson - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Round Up

Whilst a plethora of our cricketers are mid-Test match, we only have three cricketers who have registered completed games this week.

In third place sees Quinton De Kock register just 29 points from his final CSA T20 Challenge Game. In normal times this total would have not seen him make a Top 3….however here we are with a Just 3.

Rizwan is another player who disappointed in a final. He was registering an average of 87.45 points per game throughout the tournament – but ended up with just 34 in the final.

In top spot is Kyle Jamieson who wins Cricketer of the Week for the second time in 2022. He did not set the world alight in New Zealand’s series against South Africa but sits on top of the list again. His two totals (165 this week and 106 in Week 1) are the lowest winning totals of the year so far.

Overall List

1.       1. Mohammad Rizwan – 995 – Narrowly stretched his lead at the top despite his meagre PSL finals day.

  2. Moeen Ali – 944 – Stays second thanks to Quinton De Kock’s flaccid CSA T20 Challenge final performance.

3.       3. Quinton De Kock – 920 – Would have been disappointed not to have grabbed second spot but holds third for a second week.

4.      4.  Glenn Maxwell – 821 – Inactive this week but manages to hold off any challengers. Needs to watch his back in coming weeks.

5.       5. Kyle Jamieson – 749 – Back in the Top 5 after a month away, despite some surprisingly anodyne performances vs South Africa.

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 263

2. Moeen Ali = 188.8
3. Mohammad Rizwan= 165.83 (Down from 26.57)

One huge tumble this week, coupled with an incremental improvement. Rizwan’s finale flop sees his average drop by 26.57 – such was his good form previous to this, however, that he is still in the Top 3 overall. Jamieson goes up by 3.8 points to 149.8.
