The Cricket List 2022 Final Standings

Weekly Top 5

1. Babar Azam - 255 - Despite scoring fewer runs than 2 other performers, Azam chipped in with his occasional bowling to nab 5 runs on the two double centurions this week. Becomes the 5th player to get 4 Cricketer of the Week awards this year.

2 = Kane Williamson - 250 - 200 runs with a strike rate of 50.63 was more of a test of mental ability than it was of cricketing prowess - but Williamson bows out of The Cricket List in style.

2 = David Warner – 250 – A Bazball inspired 200 off of 255 balls physically ruined David Warner but saw him end the year in style.

4. Risabh Pant – 192 – Ended the cricketing year with a return to form in the Test outfit, overshadowed now by his unfortunate accident. He is part of our List next year – a speedy recovery.

5. Steve Smith – 145 – Ends his three year association with our Lists in, arguably, the best form since his suspension. He finishes fifth with 85 and a wicket. December was by far his most profligate month this year.

Overall Top 10

10. Hasan Ali – 3234 points.

Cricketers of the Week – 4

Always seemed to be drifting away but then would put on a huge score and bring himself right back into consideration again. Held off Joe Root in the end to finish in 10th.

Key Stat – His 860 Economy points marked the second highest of anyone on the List.

9. Glenn Maxwell – 3248 points.

Cricketers of the Week – 2

More than slightly hampered by a broken leg, Maxwell has another year affected by a long absence. Before that injury he was 6th looking upwards, instead he is lucky to hold onto a Top Ten place

Key stat – His 700 Strike Rate points marked the second highest of anyone on the List.

8. Quinton De Kock - 3493 points

Cricketers of the Week - 4

Cemented in the Top 5 for 10 weeks during the IPL and the World Cup....he then disappeared off the face of the Earth and slumps down to 8th spot.

Key stat – QDK’s 81% of runs scored in the shortest format is the second highest of any cricketer to have played more than one format.

7. Ben Stokes – 3607 points

Cricketers of the Week – 4

A phenomenal year for the new England Test captain - however he never really looked a threat to the Top 5 at any point through the year. His retirement from ODIs and concerns re workload see him unselected next year.

Key stat – His 3004 Test match points see him as the highest scoring Test player on our List. He scored 83% of his points with the red ball.

6. Marnus Labuschagne - 3649 points

Cricketers of the Week - 2

A late spurt brought Marnus into late contention for a Top 5 spot but he finished just outside the highest echelon. Last year's Cricketer of the Year is ducking out for 2023 due to his stuttering year.

Key Stat – Of the 10 players to feature in this year and last year’s Lists, Labuschagne leaked the most points – he was down 1662 points on last year’s total.

5. Rishabh Pant - 3655 points

Cricketers of the Week - 2

Was up and down the Top 6 all year before drifting out of sight over the last month. A decent effort in his final test match of the year sees him claim a rightful Top 5 finish.

Key Stat – Despite there being three wicket-keepers in this year’s List, Pant blew them all away in terms of fielding points. His 970 points beat Mohammad Rizwan’s total by 160.

4. Moeen Ali - 4020

Cricketers of the Week - 2

Sheer amount of cricket played plus one massive score every 3 or 4 T30 games puts Moeen in the top bracket. Only one player featured in more game weeks than Moeen which bolstered his meagre average of 105.79 points an active week.

Key Stat – Despite a late year slump, Moeen walks the most points in short format games, his 3556 was nearly 400 points clear of anyone else.

3. Babar Azam - 4481

Cricketers of the Week – 4

Had some really good patches of cricket this year but also some rather underwhelming spells that hit him overall, meaning that he never really pushed for the Cricketer of the Year title he got last year. Will be back in the game for a fourth year in 2023 though.

Key Stat - Babar Azam scored 4111 points from the 4 batting disciplines, more than anyone else. His 3021 runs and 660 batting bonus points led the way in those categories.

2. Mohammad Rizwan - 4781 points

Cricketer of the Week - 3

Another one who got the job done occasionally but played very very regularly. Not very many stand out performances but 120 points every week for 40 weeks will always do the business.

Key Stat – As said above, nobody played more cricket this year than Mohammad Rizwan. He only was inactive for 11 weeks; to put that into perspective that is one fewer week than Kyle Jamieson played all year.

1. Simon Harmer - 5961

Cricketer of the Week - 10

Just the complete package. So many wickets, So many Top 5 positions. Just a complete dream for these rankings. He finished the year just the 1180 points above second place.

Key Stat – He scored nearly 2000 points more than anybody else in our list in red ball cricket. This is despite the fact that his nearest challengers, Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Marnus Labuschagne played a majority of their cricket in that format too.

Hasan Ali - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly

1. Hasan Ali - 400 - Has had a very interesting 2022. Has been largely anonymous for a majority of the year and then pops up with huge scores - this week courtesy of all round prowess in the Pakistan Cup. This is his 4th Cricketer of the Week award - only Harmer has more. Is up 2 places to 10th.

2. Travis Head - 273 - Two great Tests on the trot for Head who scores his second consecutive 200+ score. Moves above his international captain Pat Cummins into 15th place on the Overall List.

3. Marnus Labuschagne - 264 - 2021's Cricketer of the Year is probably in the form of his life in international colours and finds himself near the top of the List for the Week once more.

4. Joe Root - 159 - A similar story to last week. Not a huge yield of runs this week but backs it up with wicket and economy points. Despite the fourth highest score of the week, Root manages to move DOWN a place overall.

5. Babar Azam - 106 - Babar continued his trend of bagging one big score coupled with one single figure score - this time his big score wasn't quite as big. Pips Simon Harmer to the Top 5 by a solitary point.

Overall

1. Simon Harmer - 5961 - Scored just over 100 points in a warm up game for South Africa but it will do as the 2022 Cricketer of the Year enjoys his 1000 point cushion in the run in.

2. Mohammad Rizwan - 4755 - Only the 50 points for Rizwan this week but such is the gap between himself and third that we can hand him the silver medal now.

3. Babar Azam - 4054 - It took him slightly longer than expected but Babar Azam is back up into third spot courtesy of his impressive form in the Pak v Eng series. Can he hold out for a Top 3 spot at the end of the year?

4. Moeen Ali - 4020 - Inactive this week and down a place to 4th. As far as I can see, Moeen is not scheduled to play anymore cricket this year. Can he finish in the Top 5 with his 500 point gap over 6th.

5. Marnus Labuschagne - 3589 - Last graced the Top 5 20 weeks ago and puts himself in the mix once more. Interestingly, 3 of the 4 previous Cricketer of the Year winners are now in the current Top 5. Only Maxwell is missing for the full set.

Ones to Watch

Ben Stokes is the man to watch as we head into the Final Test. He has just 7 points between him and inactive Quinton De Kock and then a further 103 to get into the Top 5.

Top Three Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 192.29 (Down from 195.2)
2. Ben Stokes = 134.08 (Down from 135.8)
3. Babar Azam = 130.77 (Down from 131.6)

Hasan Ali's average takes a huge pump of 11.01 points thanks to his huge score. KL Rahul's score of just 8 sees his average descend to 93.39,
