Sam Curran - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Gone early this week as I'm laid up with flu so thought that I might as well get ahead of it before my immune system collapses.

Weekly Top 5....but also kind of Top 7

1. Sam Curran - 221 - Rather enjoying the ILT20 and is tucking into the bowlers. Known more as a bowling all-rounder than the adverse, he has scored more points with the bat than he has with the ball in this competition. This is his 6th all time Cricketer of the Week.

2. Kane Williamson - 171 - Liberated from semi-retirement from the New Zealand set-up, Williamson is reinventing himself as T20 gun for hire.....and this week he has hit the target with scores of 56 & 45 in the SA20.

3. Adam Zampa - 150 - Without pausing for breath has gone from the BBL to the ILT20 and has bagged a pleasingly increasing amount of wickets. Starting off with 0 wickets in Game 1 vs the Desert Vipers, he then got 1, then 2 and finished the week with a threefer against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders

=4. Jos Buttler - 139 - Pleasing consistency from Buttler as those around him do not do as well. This is his second three figure score in succession. Moves up to 11th in the Overall list.

=4. Chamari Athapaththu - 139 - No fireworks for the Sri Lankan this week but could have achieved more if not for the wash out at Wellington that took 40 wicket points away from her.

=4. Heinrich Klaasen - 139 - Snapped out of a poor run of form with 66 against MI Cape Town. Moves up to 12th in the Overall List.

5. Wanindu Hasaranga - 130 - Solid performances from Hasaranga this week sees him round off the Top 5. Keeping his eye in with economy points; he has the second best Economy in the ILT20 and the most Economy points of any of the bowlers on the List.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 759 - Finished in the Top 5 of the week again and completes 4 straight weeks at the top of the List.....her lead is now just 80 though.

2. Sam Curran - 679 - Curran lost 2nd place last week, skipping third place and dropping to fourth. This week he reclaims it with a weekly high score, skips third place and narrows the gap to first.

3. Wanindu Hasaranga - 596 - Yet again does just enough to hold third place for the entire month of January. The 108 point gap between him and fourth place is now the largest gap on the List.

4. Ravindra Jadeja - 488 - Inactive this week. Down two places but still holds a Top 5 berth.

5. Nicholas Pooran - 445 - Dropped out of the Overall Top 5 last week but returns, largely courtesy of a rather impressive 70 points from fielding last week.

Ones To Watch

international Team Mates Harry Brook and Jamie Smith are both tied up on 58 points so far.....who will get the most out of the remaining T20 games?

Top 3 Averages

1. Ravindra Jadeja - 244
2. Sam Curran - 226.33 (Down from 229)
3. Chamari Athapaththu - 189.75 (Down from 206.67)

After remembering that he is rather a good cricketer this week, Liam Livingstone's average improves the most up 33 points. Nicholas Pooran's drops the most; -34.67 at 148.33.

Rachin Ravindra - The Best Cricketer of the Week

It has been one of the highest scoring weeks on record. All of the Top Five point scorers of this week have scores of 200+.

Top 5 for the Week

1. Rachin Ravindra - 412 - The Kiwi started the week in last place on the List and finishes it in 6th. This is thanks to the 18th largest score since we started this game. A hugely impressive debut Cricketer of the Week performance.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 276 - Not many weeks you score a double century in a Test and don't end up in top spot but Jaiswal has certainly caught the eye in his first forays in the Indian Test side.

3. James Vince - 231 - Vince is making an absolute killing in the UAE. 231 points from three T20s is impressive form whatever competition you are playing in.

4. Shubman Gill - 218 - Doubled his overall score in one week as Gill shook off his malaise with a century against England. Moves up from 20th to 14th on the Overall list.

5. Jos Buttler - 212 - Finished his SA20 with another two impressive T20 scores. Only Babar Azam has more T20 points than Buttler so far this year.

Overall Top 5

1. Babar Azam - 893 - Two identical scores of 47 at a Strike Rate above 100 but below 150 saw Azam score a moderate 134 for the week. He holds on to his first place spot for the second week.

2. Jos Buttler - 798 - Moves up a spot as he finishes his spell in South Africa. Genuinely hard to see where he plays any cricket until the IPL in late March though.

3. James Vince - 755 - Refuses to be under estimated. Moves up a place and has the second largest gap on the person below him of anyone on the List. Genuinely a force to be reckoned with in amongst our superstars.

4. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 651 - A Test double century against England is quite a classy way to move back into the Top 5. Will be inactive next week before the Third Test.

5. Chamari Athapaththu - 629 - A second inactive week and Chamari is dropping like a stone.

Other Movers

Moeen Ali finished sixth for the week but still manages to move up two places to 12th.

Top 3 Average Points per Active Week

1. Jos Buttler - 199.5 (Up from 195.33)
2. Babar Azam - 178.6 (Down from 189.75)
3. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 162.75 (Up from 125)

Two very differing fates for our two Kiwis. Daryl Mitchell moves down 47 points on his average - and now has 149. Ravindra's mahoosive score sees his average swell from 23 points a week to 152.67. Having started the week with the highest and lowest averages they are now 6th and 7th.

Steve Smith - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Top 5 Cricketers of the Week

1. Steve Smith = 296 - Was probably the best player in Australia's shock test defeat to the West Indies and was then probably the best player in their victory in the 1st ODI. Shockingly, Smith has never won more than 2 Cricketer of the Weeks in a year so is half there already.

2. Ravindra Jadeja - 279 - Has been sat on 0 points since Week 1 but has given us a taste of his 2023 form this week with points scored with both bat and ball. Leaps from bottom of the pile to 13th. Will slide back down as he is sidelined for the second Test.

3. Babar Azam - 199 - Producing the goods out in Bangladesh. Two T20 games for Babar with scores of 62 and 37 to continue his ever presence in the Weekly Top 5.

4. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 135 - Indians wunderkind is here thanks to his score of 80 in the first innings of their thrilling Test defeat against England. More points on the horizon very soon for this young man.

5. Sam Curran - 132 - Two impactful innings of 20 & 22 for Sam has seen him just edge into the Top 5. He also moves onto the verge of the overall Top 5 with the closing games of the SA20 on the horizon.

Overall Top 5

1. Babar Azam - 759 - Has spent two weeks in second place but has taken advantage of inactivity above him to seize the top spot for the first time since 2021 where he spent the majority of the year in top spot before Labuschagne stole it from him at the very end.

2. Chamari Athapaththu - 629 - Spent the whole of January as the best Cricketer in the World but, as February roles in and she puts her feet up she has been caught lacking and moves into second spot.

3. Jos Buttler - 586 - A quieter week for Jos Buttler as he only managed a single score over 20, however he retains 3rd place. Buttler spent 10 weeks hanging around in bronze position before moving into the top spot in the later part of the year.

4. James Vince - 524 - Despite scoring a mere 59 this week, Vince holds on to fourth spot - mainly due to a lack of challenge from those below him.

5. Steve Smith - 411 - Smith has pulled off a leap that would have Jonathan Edwards salivating as he moves up from 17th position to 5th in one fell swoop. Not bad going for the newly crowned Australian opener.

Other Movers

Usman Khawaja is the only upwardly mobile player not to feature in any Top 5s. He moves up 3 places to 15th.

Top 3 Average Points per Active Week

1. Daryl Mitchell - 196
1. Jos Buttler - 195.33 (Down from 247.5)
3. Babar Azam - 189.75 (Up from 186.67)

Jos Buttler tumbles form his stratospheric heights to a more menial score of a smidge under 200. Steve Smith moves up 22 and a half points thanks to his colossal week; his average is now 137 a week.
