Quinton De Kock - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Only 7 players featured this week and of them four scored under 30....so just a top three is in order this week.

Weekly Update

1. Quinton De Kock - 174 - The player of the tournament from the white ball leg of India's tour of South Africa get his first Cricketer of the Week of 2022 and his fourth overall.

2. Moeen Ali - 151 - Scored the all but 10 of his points in just one of the three T20s he played against West Indies. Could have been in for a corker of a score if he hadn't been so anodyne in the other fixtures.

3. Mohammad Rizwan - 92 - Makes his bow on the list with a third placed finished thanks to his PSL victory for Multan in Fixture 1 of the tournament. Is likely to be a contender long-term.

Overall Update

1. Glenn Maxwell - 541 - Inactive this week but that HUGE score Melbourne Stars against Hobart still sees him 126 points ahead of the next active player.

2. Pat Cummins - 439 - Holds second place for the second week in a row despite an inactive week.

3. Rishabh Pant - 415 - Despite scoring the second lowest total for the week, Pant manages to keep hold of his third place spot for a second week. Has yet to be outside the top 3.

4. Quinton De Kock - 369 - Ostensibly in the Top 5 thanks to just two ODIs. Spent 14 weeks in the Top 5 last year but finished 6th. Can he go one better this year?

5. Kyle Jamieson - 300 - Is into his third inactive week but is still clinging onto his Top Five place. He has a 64 point lead on KL Rahul in sixth.

Other movers

Despite scoring a mere 29 points, Rahul managed to overtake Simon Harmer and Marnus Labuschagne and move into 6th spot.

Ones to Watch

There is a trio of players at the foot of the table who will all be in T20 action this week. Moeen Ali is 30 points behind Travis Head with his lead on Rizwan only standing at 60. Babar Azam is rock bottom as it stands but needs a mere 20 points to relegate David Warner to the foot of the table.

Top Three Averages

1. Pat Cummins - 219.5
2. Quinton De Kock - 185.4
3. Glenn Maxwell - 180.33

There are always some very big drops in averages in these early weeks of the year. Rishabh Pant lost 27.92 and is down to 103.75.

Glenn Maxwell - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Apologies for the late update, we have become a plague household....which rather ruins the weekend.

Weekly List

1. Glenn Maxwell 253 - The Big Show had one of his little bursts of dynamite form in BBL 11 this week. Scores of 40 and 103 put him top of the tree for the third time in 2021.

2. Nicholas Pooran - 228 - A couple of flat performances coupled with a big one for the Windies sees him score his first points since the World Cup. That period of inactivity has seen him drop down to fourth for the most T20 points of the year.

3. Joe Root - 149 - Obviously not the greatest First Test for Team England but Root re-opened his account with the highest individual score of anyone on our List.

4. Babar Azam - 146 - Just like he did against Bangladesh, Azam lulled the West Indies into a false sense of security with two single figure scores and then blindsided them with 79 in the final T20.

5. Marnus Labuschagne - 134 - Wants to use the start of the Ashes to force his agenda on the overall list and started in an average vein with a triple figure score in the first knock.

Overall Update

1. Simon Harmer - 5201 - Is *scheduled* to have one further game for the Titans this year whilst Marnus has two more Ashes Tests. Could be tighter than an Otter's pocket.

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 5056 - Marnus is narrowing that gap to top spot - but he has had it down to single figures and let it escape before.

3. Babar Azam - 4385 - As far as I am am aware that is Babar's year done. Last year's champion finishes the year almost definitely in third space. He is 671 points off second but 432 away from fourth.

4. Moeen Ali - 3953 - Is looking behind his shoulder at the approaching figure of Joe Root - however his top 5 berth is assured. He is 776 points above Quinton De Kock in 6th.

5. Joe Root - 3763 - Already we are at the stage where this Ashes series appears to be primarily about Root's personal accolades. How far can he get up the table? He spent 16 weeks in third. Can he get back to where he once belonged?

Ones to Watch

As well as Steve Smith only being 3 points ahead of Warner, Peter Siddle leads out a very active list of players. Only 281 points separate Siddle, Malan and Handscomb.

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 180.57 (Down from 182.3)

After dropping 2.66 last week, Maxwell has swung that back and added 6.81 to finish the week on 110.05. Peter Siddle's blank week sees his average dip by 8.3 to 141.11.

Ravichandran Ashwin - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Update

Despite the best efforts of England to slip to a loss in two days, we have not had enough completed cricket this week for a Top 5 so another Top 3 it is:

1. Ravichandran Ashwin - 260 - Another metronomically excellent performance from Ashwin this week to claim his fifth Cricketer of the Week. Only Harmer and Labuschagne have more.

2. Peter Siddle - 130 - Two BBL games for Siddle saw him grab 4 wickets and keep him forcing his agenda at the bottom end of the Top 10. He is just 99 points off 8th placed Nicholas Pooran now.

3. Babar Azam - 126 - Test cricket has not looked too kindly on Babar this year however he finished the year with aplomb....and also that rare thing for him - a wicket.

Yearly Update

Only one of our Top 5 was in action this week; Azam's 126 puts him 286 points off Moeen in 4th and 'narrows' the gap to Marnus to 683.

That top five now reads:

1. Simon Harmer - 5201
2. Marnus Labuschagne - 4922
3. Babar Azam - 4239
4. Moeen Ali - 3953
5. Joe Root - 3614

Other performers of interest

Peter Handscomb's score of 87 didn't see him in the Top 3 for the week but still saw him overtake Dawid Malan into 10th spot.

Ones to Watch

The BBL boys have a lot to play for. peter Siidle is just 99 points away from usurping Nicholas Pooran in 8th spot whilst Glenn Maxwell is 17 points off knocking Virat Kohli into 13th.

Highest Players by Format

Long Form - Simon Harmer - 3326
50 Over - Simon Harmer - 954
T20 - Babar Azam - 3068

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer - 185.75
2. Marnus Labuschagne - 182.3
3. Joe Root - 157.13

Glenn Maxwell's poor start to the BBL sees his average drop by 2.66 - he is only just the right side of 100 points per week. Ravichandran Ashwin's Test form sees him add a huge 5.71 to his weekly average score.
