James Vince - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 5

1. James Vince - 311 - Doing big things in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament. Is the ninth highest scorer with 148 runs with an average strike rate of 187.34. Basically whenever he plays you're guaranteed at least 50 points. Is guaranteed at least one more game and might have a further 4.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 201 - Got the feeling that his score of 161 was a defining innings in his burgeoning career. Despite that it is only worth silver medal this week. He does move up a place to 8th this week, over-taking his inactive Indian team mate Ravindra Jadeja.

3. Phil Salt - 196 - Registers his fourth three figure score in a row. Has got 892 points in the last month across his 20 over and 10 over commitments with England and Team Abu Dhabi. Started the year slowly but sure is finishing it strongly.

4. Virat Kohli - 155 - A century sees Kohli back in the Top 5 for the first time since July. Such has been his poor form that this is his highest score since May's Yearly Best 244.

5. Mitchell Marsh - 155 - It is telling how bad a 2024 Marsh has had when this is his third highest score of the year. 53 runs and 3 wickets in the loss to India was just enough to keep Jos Buttler in 6th place. He moves up a place on the Overall list to 19th.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 4681 - Registering decent, if not spectacular numbers in the WBBL. Holds top spot for a seventh week. Only Azam's 20 weeks in first place have been longer.

2. James Vince - 4338 - Despite registering the 16th highest score of the year, Vince stays in second place and can only slash the gap on first to 343. More impressively the gap to third place stands at 652.

3. Travis Head - 3686 - Followed up his 6 week absence for cricket with a decent, if not rather underwhelming, 140. Lot of cricket in him yet this year though.

4. Phil Salt - 892 points in a month has seen him go from 13th to 4th. Quite the jump for a guy who took 5 months to break in the Top 10.

5. Sam Curran - Inactive this week and down a place to 5th; his lowest position for 15 weeks. Things could get even worse as he is just 121 points ahead of the next active player Marnus Labuschagne in 7th.

Other Movers

Despite Harry Brook's fairly anodyne 79 against a New Zealand Prime Minister's XI, he still manages to move up 2 places; overtaking the inactive Rachin Ravindra and Simon Harmer,

Top Three Averages

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 167.18 (Down from 168.44)
2. Jos Buttler -143.26 (Up from 142.83)
3. Ravindra Jadeja - 132.39.

James Vince average improves the most up by an impressive 5.44 to 1205, whilst Marnus' poor start to the BGT sees his average decrease to the tune of 3.53. He currently stands at 123.35 a week.

Jos Buttler - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Overall Top 5

1. Jos Buttler - 310 - An astonishing week for Buttler who followed up a fairly decent return to International colours with two absolutely stonking T10 innings for Deccan Gladiators; 64 from 24 and 60 from 22. This is his highest weekly score of the year.

2. Phil Salt - 296 - Finished his tour of West Indies well (55 runs) then started the Abu Dhabi T10 well (53 runs). He also managed 70 points from Strike Rate to take him clear of Travis Head as the highest point scorer on that attribute.

3. Aaron Hardie - 138 - Had a pretty solid white ball series against Pakistan and seems a fairly solid member of the Australia team now. Showed his all round acumen with a decent 28 in the penultimate ODI and then a three-fer in the final outing. Moves up a place to 19th in the Overall List.

4. Chamari Athapaththu - 88 - Still failing to impress with the bat but doing decent work with the ball and is up amongst the highest wicket takers in the WBBL.

5. Babar Azam - 64 - Ends the tour of Australia with one decent innings of 41 to just sneak in a rather underwhelming total for a fifth place weekly finish.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 4548 - With one more week of WBBL action, Athapaththu did the only thing she has to do and outscored second place by 31 points. The gap is now 521. Will it be enough?

2. James Vince - 4077 - Returns from his longest spell of inactivity to get 57 in a single game for Delhi in the Abu Dhabi T10. Still plenty to go and then the BBL. He has 481 points to third; so it looks like he will finish on the podium this year.

3. Travis Head - 3546 - Currently featuring in a cracking Test against India. His points will update next week.

4. Sam Curran - 3460 - Was solid rather than explosive during the tour of the West Indies. 71 to round it off and he holds 4th for the 10th week.

5. Phil Salt - 3349 - A month ago he was 13th but now has rocketed into his highest position this year just as we approach the final straight. There is a lot of T10 cricket on the schedule for him and the has 111 points between him and 4th and 197 between him and third. Anything is possible.

Top Three Averages

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 168.44 (Down from 171.54)
2. Jos Buttler - 142.83 (Up from 133)
3. Ravindra Jadeja - 132.39.

A narrowing at the top this week as first placed Athapaththu's average drops the most (-3.1) whilst Buttler's improves the most (+9.83).

Phil Salt - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 5

1. Phil Salt - 197 - If Salt played in the Carribean every week he might put on Lara like figures. He finishes in first place this week for the second time in 2024. He also moves up to 7th place overall; his highest position in 2 months. He has never been higher.

2. Jos Buttler - 2261 - 20 weeks out of cricket ended disappointingly for Buttler with a golden duck in his first innings. Made that up with 87 more runs in the other two games....fairly unevenly spread mind.

3. Daryl Mitchell - 149 - Not gargantuan figures for Mitchell on his return to domestic cricket; especially when you consider 40% of this came from his bowling figures from a meagre 14 overs. All the points count though.

4. Chamari Athapaththu - 142 - Not producing blistering performances in the WBBL but sheer weight of matches helps put her in a fairly low scoring Top 5 this week.

5. Glenn Maxwell - 84 - The runt of the Top 5 litter this week is Maxwell who scores 58 points fewer than fourth place. Is especially lucky to be here considering he scored a big fat zero in the final ODI against Pakistan.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 4460 - With every passing week of WBBL action she puts herself further away from second place. Her gap is now up to 490. The only gap bigger is between Smith and Khawaja at the other end of the table.

2. James Vince - 3970 - About to enter his final week of inactivity before some rare T10 action. Is very well insulated in silver place; he has 490 above him and 424 below him.

3. Travis Head - 3546 - His fourth week inactive is his joint longest period of fallow time. Next week's fifth inactive week will be his last.

4. Sam Curran - 3406 - 71 points this week narrowed the gap on third place to 167 but that isn't nearly enough to broach a Top Three that is looking pretty untouchable with a month of the competition left.

5. Babar Azam - 3239 - Only 61 points this week but that makes the gap between him and Labuschagne very very very tight instead of just very very very very tight. 67 points separate.

Other Movers

A mere 27 points for Wellington in the Plunket Shield was enough to see Rachin Ravindra breach the Top 10 again.

Top Three Averages

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 171.54 (Down from 172.72)
2. Jos Buttler - 133 (Up from 131.5)
3. Ravindra Jadeja - 132.39.

For the first time in record two players have decreased by the same amount. Aaron Hardie & Rachin Ravindra are both down by 2.97 to 74.36 & 104.22 respectively. Phil Salt is up the most to breach the 100 point a week mark.
