Jos Buttler - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 5

1. Jos Buttler - 222 - It took Buttler until Week 6 for him to the first player to win back-to-back Cricketer of the Week accolades; this year it took him two weeks fewer. Is really getting himself back into good form in the SA20.

2. James Vince - 188 - Had a very Buttler-lite style week this week. Where Jos got 46, 54 and 11, Vince got 45, 52 and 1. Continues to impress on the T20 circuit and needs to cash in before the long haul to the start of the Country Championship.

3. Simon Harmer - 156 - Look whose cropped up prematurely early.....no, not the words of my fertility consultant but instead an early showing for Simon Harmer courtesy of a four-fer against Durban in the SA20.

4. Chamari Athapaththu - 153 - One good game with the bat and one good game with the ball sees Athapaththu in the Top 5 for the fourth consecutive week. Making hay whilst the New Zealand sun shines.

5. Moeen Ali - 153 - Is having a much more fruitful time in franchise cricket than he is in international cricket. Is largely here thanks to a couple of impactful T20 innings in the SA 20.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 629 - 4 weeks at the top of the table for Athapaththu. Nobody has done the first 5 weeks on the trot. Can the Sri Lanakan break records?

2. Babar Azam - 560 - Finished his international commitments with an underwhelming 13 before joining up with the IT20 and getting a trademark half century at 100+ SR. You feel he may cash in in this Tier 3 T20 tournament.

3. Jos Buttler - 495 - Has leapt into the Top 5 in just two weeks. Is averaging 82.5 points per T20 game in the SA 20 and there are at least 4 more of them in the tournament - with the possibility of another 7.

4. James Vince - 465 - Is yo-yo-ing his way up and down the table in the first month. Debuted in seventh, moved up to 3rd, dropped back to 7th and now is in fourth. His gap of 73 from the player below him is the second largest on the List.

5. Daryl Mitchell - 392 - Inactive this week but he manages to hold onto his Top 5 position by the skin of his teeth. His nearest active player before next week will be Aaron Hardie in 7th who is 19 points away from him.

Other Movers

Phil Salt was the most upwardly mobile player to not feature in either of our Top 5s this week. He scored 102 points but moved up four places to 13. Sam Curran also moved up this week and is now in 9th place.

Top 3 Average Points per Active Week

1. Jos Buttler - 247.5
2. Daryl Mitchell - 196
3. Babar Azam - 186.67 (Down from 219.15)

Azam started the week with the highest average but dropped 32.83 and ended third. James Vince's average improved the most; up 23.92 to 116.25.

Jos Buttler - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Very very early to have an almost full compliment of cricketers featuring in a week but only Brook, Gill and Jadeja did not play this week. Let's see our Top 5.

Weekly Top 5

1. Jos Buttler - 273 - Last year's Cricketer of the Year ended 2023 on a bit of a sour note, but is starting to look sweet again in the SA20 and is straight back into action with a weekly top score. Places him 8th Overall after three weeks.

2. Babar Azam - 253 - Pakistan are getting drubbed by New Zealand but Azam is giving it his all. You can always bank on him to get a half century and with two this week he is good value for second spot.

3. Travis Head = 179 - Provided the batting highlight of the first Test against the West Indies and is rewarded with a third place finish for the week as well as a surge up the table overall; from 11th to 9th.

4. Glenn Maxwell - 172 - Ended his BBL 13 season with some typically boisterous hitting and a final feature in the Top 5. Is now going to have a fortnight out the game before the ODIs against the West Indies.

5. Daryl Mitchell - 168 - Featured in three T20s this week and is largely here thanks to 72* in the final one. He has finished in the Top 5 two weeks in a row and will be playing throughout February.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 478 - Becomes the first cricketer to top the overall list for the first three weeks of the year. Scored only 105 and has the pack breathing down her neck but is holding her own.

2. Babar Azam - 439 - Jumped up 4 places to 2nd this week. Only spent two weeks in the Top 5 in 2023. Will be wanting to better that in 2024.

3. Daryl Mitchell - 392 - Up a place from last week. Is rapidly becoming the fulcrum of the team. With New Zealand playing pretty consistently through until March, he could be a mainstay at the very top of our List.

4. Glenn Maxwell - 385 - Up a place for The Big Show. He is really looking on top form after his injury ravaged 2023. Is having a fortnight away from the game but should be back soon enough.

5. Aaron Hardie - 316 - Yo-yos back into the Top 5 against. After finishing third in week one, dropping down to 7th in week two, he now rounds off our weekly Top 5. His continued involvement in BBL 13 will see him continue to be amongst the points for at least one more game.

Other Movers

Two other players moved up this week. Sam Curran moved up 3 spots to finish Week 3 in 12th whilst Virat Kohli is up two to 11th.

Ones To Watch

With the second Test against the West Indies next week, Australia's new opening partnership of Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja are both tied in 15th place with 115 points.

Top 3 Average Points per Active Week

1. Babar Azam - 219.5
2. Daryl Mitchell - 196
3. Chamari Athapaththu - 159.33 (Down from 186.5)

Athapaththu's average declines the most but she still possessess the third highest average overall. Glenn Maxwell's average improves the most. He is up 21.83 points to 128.33.

Marnus Labuschagne - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 5

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 267 - Straight back after a year away and claims his twelfth Cricketer of the Year award. Could we be seeing the beginnings of a stellar year like he had in 2021?

2. Daryl Mitchell - 224 - Couldn't have asked for a better debut week on our List for a T20 player. Scores of 57 in the Super Smash for Canterbury and then 67 in national colours sees him finish with a score that would see you in top position most weeks.

3. Chamari Athapaththu - 214 - When she plays she will need to score big to stay up the top of the List and she is certainly fulfilling that brief so far. 3 games in the Women's Supers Smash this week with scores of 1, 25 and 58 plus two wickets.

=4. Babar Azam - 186 - Finishes in the Top 5 for the week but fourth does seem a little underwhelming from a Test and a T20. Without that T20 he would have finished even lower - with just 37% of his points coming from the red ball.

=4. James Vince - 186 - Two decent performances in BBL 13 puts James Vince near the top of the tree for the second week in a row. Scored a POTM 79 against Melbourne Stars before a more understated 27 against Sydney Thunder.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 373 - Finished top last week and third this week so is good value for the overall lead. Nobody has ever finished top in the first three weeks in a row, can Chamari pull off that feat?

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 267 - Straight in at second for the Australia and Brisbane batter, with a Test match on the horizon you would suspect that his Top 5 position is well assured.

3. James Vince - 235 - Consistently OK performances in BBL 13 see him rise up the ranks to third in our overall placings. Needs to perform big in the remaining games as a period of time in the wilderness beckons.

4. Daryl Mitchell - 224 - Straight into the Top 5 for a player that is increasingly becoming Kane Williamson's heir apparent.

5. Glenn Maxwell - 213 - The only member of the overall Top 5 who did not feature in the weekly Top 5. Just 71 points this week and drops from second to fifth but the days are still early.

Ones To Watch

It is just outside the Top 10 where eyes are drawn with just 50 points between 10th place Jaiswal and 15th place Sam Curran.

Phil Salt - The Best Cricketer of the Week

Weekly Top 5 1. Phil Salt - 197 - If Salt played in the Carribean every week he might put on Lara like figures. He finishes in first place...
